Wright toured with Lenny White at 13 and played with Tom Browne in 1979. He got such strong response that he was signed to GRP in 1981. But the LP 'Nard stalled, though there was good reaction among R&B and fusion fans to the single "Just Chillin' Out." It was followed by Funky Beat for Arista and Mr. Wright for Manhattan/EMI. Wright also co-wrote and sang with La La on "We'll Keep Strivin." He recorded with Cameo, Bobby Brown, Pieces of a Dream, and Charles Earland, among others.
In 1990 he released the gospel album Fresh Hymns. In 2000 he formed a trio with Alfredo Elias and Damon Banks and released the album Back To Our Roots.

@AJ ATL Hi AJ, it really is a small world! We were in college at the same time. I met Bernard at Blues Alley in DC while celebrating my birthday. He was a surprise guest artist. We were married 8 months later.
“Master Rocker” was ‘Nard’s tribute to Frankie Crocker. Thank you for your condolences. This is a huge loss for our family but I’m so grateful for the friends and fans who will continue to keep his music playing. 🙏🏾❤️

@anita wright WOW! I just realized we graduated the same year of college- 1984! And I just realize your Bernard Wright’s actual spouse? My heart and condolences go out you and the fam.
Being originally from the NJ/NY area, I remember while in Atlanta, and before transferring to Hampton, hearing “Master Rocker”on WCLK. It was our own regional (WBLS’s) connection to our ‘sound’ - music honoring the late Frankie Crocker…,eh? We assume? I once read, BW’s music is one of the most sampled in the world of Hip Hop!
May his prodigy lives on 🙏🏾

@Rarepearl Thank you for your kind words. I just saw your message. Bernard passed away in May. God truly blessed us with three beautiful children and three grandchildren.
We met in 1984 while I was a Senior at Howard and Bernard called in to WHUR and dedicated this song to me. The love, music and happy memories will live on forever.
Much love and many blessings to you 🙏🏾❤️
