After 2 albums of underground transgressive rock, the band started mixing it with Latin American rhythms such a cumbia, chacarera, candombe and cuartetazo. The lyrics, though, remained acid and critical of political and social problems.

The current line-up is: Gustavo Cordera (voice), Juan Subirá (keyboards and voice), Carlos Martín (drums), Oscar Righi (guitar), "Pepe" Céspedes (bass guitar and voice), Daniel Suárez (voice), Alberto Verenzuela (guitar), and "Cóndor" Sbarbatti (voice and charango); previous members include Charly Bianco (guitar and voice) and Rubén Sadrinas (voice).

Honoring the psychiatric hospital José Tiburcio Borda in Buenos Aires, La Bersuit performs dressed in characteristic pajamas; even though the story of Cordera spending some time in that institution is a mere urban legend, the band has an affinity with everything related to madness and marginalization.

Besides the big success, first in the Buenos Aires' underground movement and then in all the country, Bersuit Vergarabat harvested fans from many countries in South America as well as in Spain.

Overall Meaning

In Bersuit Vergarabat's song Cajón 5 Estrellas, the lyrics talk about the fear of death and the need for protection even in old age. The first verse talks about how even if someone is old and tired, they still have fear of death and have not put any effort into preparing for it. They have not even placed an eye on the hole, referring to the peephole in the coffin.

The second verse talks about how the person is a handy locksmith who expertly keeps the refrigerator closed to keep their food fresh. However, it is mentioned that their future excrement is far away, implying that death is not being thought about. The lyrics then move on to praise the cleanliness of their bathroom and how even the gin they drink is consumed in a well-lit environment. The person is obsessed with purifying the air and using mothballs to mask the smell of death. The lyrics suggest that even though the person may pass away, the formol in their body will prevent it from decomposing.

The chorus repeats the phrase "El cajón te protegerá" which means "the coffin will protect you." This implies that the person is preparing for their death by investing in a deluxe coffin and has complete control over its construction and combination lock. They have found peace in the fact that one day, no one will disturb them, and they can rest in the protection of their coffin.
