Thank you very much for your appreciation, J, for both the music and the liner notes :-)

Well P, I am a BIG Bert Firman fan. His Positively Absolutely and Sugarfoot Stomp are two of my favorites, I think done as Devonshire Cafe Dance Band. If you have Zono 2836 here, your vocalist is Eddie Collis. Bert directed and also played violin~Frank Guarante and Max Goldberg - tpt; Perley Breed and Arthur Lally - cl, as, bar sax; Bill Barton - ts; John Firman - p; Joe Brannelley - bjo; Billy Bell - bb; and Collis also playing drums.Archives say this was recorded at Small Queens Hall, London 11-25-26. The label supposedly credited this as Carlton Hotel Dance Orchestra. Wonderful upload here P!! Thanks SO much. Had never heard this Firman before perhaps because it was listed as Hal Christie.

Thanks very much again for your information, B and you surely did not overexplain; it is interesting to compare sources and in most cases matrix is solving the case :-) Certainly some Reser reminiscence here too, I agree!

Suppose its just a typo~hope I didn't end up over-explaining this. Forgive me if I did~this just lended itself to some interesting research and since it was Firman and Victor involved, I couldn't resist. Notice how much this sounds like the Harry Reser bands with the bjo and all. Actually, it was Rust's research along with a Collis discography site that supplied the matrix numbers and confirmed the above.

Hi B, thanks again for your detailed explanation about the issue and matrix numbers. However is there still a matrix difference (9663 vs. 9683) or is just a typo?

A little light on our mystery~British Homophone got Gramophone (parent of HMV and European arm of Victor) to supply Homophone with masters. The 10 inch issues were prefixed D. Gramophone used their Zonophone masters Yy prefix for the 10" but designated the Homophone 10" as matrix HH. So your D1047 with an HH matrix is the same as Zonophone Yy, and more specifically Zono MX Yy9683, label 2896. Zono archives indicate this was only recorded once. Who knows, its not important, but interesting to me how much information can be excavated after 92 years. Enjoying this again.

I'm delighted B, you loved this upload, thank you so much. Firman was consistently at a high level even if he recorded profusely in those days. As for the vocalist, my problem is, this is Homochord D-1047 (Mx HH-9663-1-2). Since Rust did not indicate the vocalist, I am not sure... It should be pointed out this issue was also recorded at Small Queens Hall, but on November 19th, 1926. Personnel is slightly different, including re. Eddie Collis, who (according to Rust) did not join the studio before November 23...
