He was born in Hamburg, Germany, and studied at the School of Music there. A multi-instrumentalist, he was hired by Hans Busch to play with his orchestra before serving as a bandsman in the German Navy during World War II. He later formed his own big band, toured with them, then worked as an arranger and producer, making hit records with Freddy Quinn and Ivo Robic. In 1961, he hired The Beatles to back Tony Sheridan on "My Bonnie (Lies Over the Ocean)," "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Ain't She Sweet" and "Cry for a Shadow," in a session for Polydor. These turned out to be the Beatles' first commercial recordings. When Beatles manager Brian Epstein asked Kaempfert about further promoting The Beatles, Kaempfert informed Epstein that the company was only interested in The Beatles as Tony Sheridan's backup group. (It also turned out British Decca executive Dick Rowe turned them down in favor of local beat combo Brian Poole and the Tremeloes.) He then released The Beatles from their contract with Polydor.
As I Love You
Bert Kaempfert Lyrics

As long as I have you
Though there be rain
And darkness too
I'll not complain
I'll see it through
PovertyMay come to me, it's true
But what care I
Say, I'll get by
As long as I have you.
But what care I
Say, I'll get by
As long as I have you.
The lyrics to Bert Kaempfert and His Orchestra's song "I'll Get By As Long As I Have You" suggest an unwavering strength and confidence in the face of adversity. The song is a testament to the power of love and the ability of a loved one's support to provide the courage and perseverance to confront whatever challenges life presents.
In the first stanza, the singer acknowledges that life may not always be easy, using the metaphors of rain and darkness to represent difficult times. But despite this, he refuses to complain and instead commits to seeing things through. The second stanza speaks to a potential hardship, poverty, that may come, but the singer declares that it is of no concern as long as he has his loved one by his side.
The final lines of the song, repeating the refrain "But what care I / Say, I'll get by / As long as I have you," drive home the message that love and support can give us the strength to overcome any obstacle.
