He was born in Hamburg, Germany, and studied at the School of Music there. A multi-instrumentalist, he was hired by Hans Busch to play with his orchestra before serving as a bandsman in the German Navy during World War II. He later formed his own big band, toured with them, then worked as an arranger and producer, making hit records with Freddy Quinn and Ivo Robic. In 1961, he hired The Beatles to back Tony Sheridan on "My Bonnie (Lies Over the Ocean)," "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Ain't She Sweet" and "Cry for a Shadow," in a session for Polydor. These turned out to be the Beatles' first commercial recordings. When Beatles manager Brian Epstein asked Kaempfert about further promoting The Beatles, Kaempfert informed Epstein that the company was only interested in The Beatles as Tony Sheridan's backup group. (It also turned out British Decca executive Dick Rowe turned them down in favor of local beat combo Brian Poole and the Tremeloes.) He then released The Beatles from their contract with Polydor.

On Blueberry Hill
On Blueberry Hill
When I found you
The moon stood still
On Blueberry Hill
And lingered until My dream came true
The wind in the willow played
Love's sweet melody
But all of those vows you made
Were never to be
Though we're apart
You're part of me still
For you were my thrill
On Blueberry Hill
The wind in the willow played
Love's sweet melody
But all of those vows you made
Were never to be
Though we're apart
You're part of me still
For you were my thrill
On Blueberry Hill
The song "Blueberry Hill" by Bert Kaempfert tells the story of a romantic encounter that takes place on a hill. The singer reminisces about the time when he found his "thrill" on Blueberry Hill, which refers to a moment of great joy and happiness. The moon and the wind in the willow tree create a romantic atmosphere for the dream to come true. However, the relationship ultimately falls apart, and the promises made by the other person are never fulfilled. Despite the heartbreak and separation, the singer still holds on to the memory of the thrill he once experienced on Blueberry Hill.
The lyrics of the song evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing, as the singer looks back on a happy memory that is now tainted by the disappointment of an unfulfilled promise. The use of natural imagery, such as the moon and the wind in the willow, creates a sense of romanticism and adds to the overall nostalgic tone of the song. The repetition of the phrase "On Blueberry Hill" throughout the song further emphasizes the importance of the location as the setting of an important moment in the singer's life.
