He was born in Hamburg, Germany, and studied at the School of Music there. A multi-instrumentalist, he was hired by Hans Busch to play with his orchestra before serving as a bandsman in the German Navy during World War II. He later formed his own big band, toured with them, then worked as an arranger and producer, making hit records with Freddy Quinn and Ivo Robic. In 1961, he hired The Beatles to back Tony Sheridan on "My Bonnie (Lies Over the Ocean)," "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Ain't She Sweet" and "Cry for a Shadow," in a session for Polydor. These turned out to be the Beatles' first commercial recordings. When Beatles manager Brian Epstein asked Kaempfert about further promoting The Beatles, Kaempfert informed Epstein that the company was only interested in The Beatles as Tony Sheridan's backup group. (It also turned out British Decca executive Dick Rowe turned them down in favor of local beat combo Brian Poole and the Tremeloes.) He then released The Beatles from their contract with Polydor.

I never dreamed that it could be
But now I realize since I saw you smile
There's only happiness for me
So
Bye bye blues
Bye bye blues
Birds sing
Sun is shining
No more pining
Just we two
Smiling thru
Don't sigh
Don't cry
Bye bye blues
Blues
In Bert Kaempfert's song "Bye Bye Blues," the lyrical theme revolves around the singer's surprise and newfound happiness after seeing someone smile. The opening lines state that the singer experiences a "big surprise" when they see the person smile. The following lines reveal that he never thought the smile could bring him such joy, yet it has now resulted in his realization that he is happy. The song then transitions to its main chorus of "Bye bye blues," signifying a goodbye to any sadness or melancholy feelings that the singer previously had.
The second verse depicts a picturesque scene where the bells are ringing, birds are singing and the sun is shining. The singer acknowledges that he is no longer pining or yearning for anything, but is instead happy to be with the person smiling with him. The refrain urges the listener to not sigh or cry any longer, as they are leaving their blues behind.
Overall, "Bye Bye Blues" is a feel-good song about overcoming sadness and finding happiness through a simple smile. The upbeat melody and cheerful lyrics make it an anthem for those looking to leave their sorrows behind and embrace a brighter tomorrow.
