He was born in Hamburg, Germany, and studied at the School of Music there. A multi-instrumentalist, he was hired by Hans Busch to play with his orchestra before serving as a bandsman in the German Navy during World War II. He later formed his own big band, toured with them, then worked as an arranger and producer, making hit records with Freddy Quinn and Ivo Robic. In 1961, he hired The Beatles to back Tony Sheridan on "My Bonnie (Lies Over the Ocean)," "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Ain't She Sweet" and "Cry for a Shadow," in a session for Polydor. These turned out to be the Beatles' first commercial recordings. When Beatles manager Brian Epstein asked Kaempfert about further promoting The Beatles, Kaempfert informed Epstein that the company was only interested in The Beatles as Tony Sheridan's backup group. (It also turned out British Decca executive Dick Rowe turned them down in favor of local beat combo Brian Poole and the Tremeloes.) He then released The Beatles from their contract with Polydor.

Darling, Don't Forbid Me to hold you tight
Let-a me hold you in my lovin' arms
'Cause it's cold and I can keep you warm
Don't a forbid me to kiss your lips
Darling, Don't Forbid Me to kiss your lips
Let-a me kiss you please baby, please 'Cause it's cold and your lips might freeze.
There's a strong Westwind a-blowing
and there's a big, blue moon above
And, pretty baby, I'll be knowing
you need some heartwarming love
So don't-a forbid me to talk sweet talk
Darling, Don't Forbid Me to talk sweet talk
Let-a me fill your little heart with fire
The lyrics of Bert Kaempfert's song "Don't Forbid Me" are about a man who is pleading with his lover not to forbid him from holding her tight, kissing her lips, and talking sweet talk to her. He knows that it is cold outside and he wants to keep her warm in his loving arms. He also wants to kiss her because he is afraid her lips might freeze in the cold. There is a strong Westwind blowing and a big, blue moon above which he takes as signs that she needs some heartwarming love. He begs her to let him talk sweet talk to her and fill her heart with fire, promising that he will keep her warm and make her feel loved.
The song is essentially about the desire for physical intimacy and emotional connection in a cold and lonely world. The man sees the signs of nature and uses them as an excuse to express his love and passion for his partner. He wants to hold her close and give her warmth, both physical and emotional. The lyrics are simple and straightforward, but the sentiment is powerful and universal.
