He was born in Hamburg, Germany, and studied at the School of Music there. A multi-instrumentalist, he was hired by Hans Busch to play with his orchestra before serving as a bandsman in the German Navy during World War II. He later formed his own big band, toured with them, then worked as an arranger and producer, making hit records with Freddy Quinn and Ivo Robic. In 1961, he hired The Beatles to back Tony Sheridan on "My Bonnie (Lies Over the Ocean)," "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Ain't She Sweet" and "Cry for a Shadow," in a session for Polydor. These turned out to be the Beatles' first commercial recordings. When Beatles manager Brian Epstein asked Kaempfert about further promoting The Beatles, Kaempfert informed Epstein that the company was only interested in The Beatles as Tony Sheridan's backup group. (It also turned out British Decca executive Dick Rowe turned them down in favor of local beat combo Brian Poole and the Tremeloes.) He then released The Beatles from their contract with Polydor.

One little thought to me
Though someone else may be
Nearer your heart?
Once in a while will you dream
Of the moments I shared with you
Moments before we twoDrifted apart?
In love's smoldering ember
One spark may remain
If love still can remember
That spark may burn again
I know that I'll be contented
With yesterday's memory
Knowing you think of me
Once in a while
In love's smoldering ember
One spark may remain
If love still can remember
The spark may burn again
I know that I'll be contented
With yesterday's memory
Knowing you think of me
Once in a while
The song "Once in a While" by Bert Kaempfert is a beautiful composition about unrequited love. The lyrics describe a love that has drifted apart, but the singer still hopes that their love interest remembers them, even if someone else is closer to their heart. The first verse asks if the person will ever think about the singer or consider them, even though someone else may have captured their heart. The second verse has the singer reminiscing about the moments they shared with their love interest, hoping that they still remember them.
The chorus is especially poignant, as the singer acknowledges that their love may have faded away, but a small spark may still remain. They will content themselves with the memories of the past, knowing that their love interest thinks of them once in a while. The song evokes a sense of longing and melancholy, as it conveys the bittersweet feeling of a love that has ended but not entirely forgotten.
Overall, "Once in a while" is a beautifully written and composed song about the complexities of human emotions, particularly love. It captures the wistfulness of unrequited love and the power of memories to sustain us. The song reminds us that even though love may fade away, it can still leave an impression on our hearts that lingers on.
