He was born in Hamburg, Germany, and studied at the School of Music there. A multi-instrumentalist, he was hired by Hans Busch to play with his orchestra before serving as a bandsman in the German Navy during World War II. He later formed his own big band, toured with them, then worked as an arranger and producer, making hit records with Freddy Quinn and Ivo Robic. In 1961, he hired The Beatles to back Tony Sheridan on "My Bonnie (Lies Over the Ocean)," "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Ain't She Sweet" and "Cry for a Shadow," in a session for Polydor. These turned out to be the Beatles' first commercial recordings. When Beatles manager Brian Epstein asked Kaempfert about further promoting The Beatles, Kaempfert informed Epstein that the company was only interested in The Beatles as Tony Sheridan's backup group. (It also turned out British Decca executive Dick Rowe turned them down in favor of local beat combo Brian Poole and the Tremeloes.) He then released The Beatles from their contract with Polydor.
The Sunny Side Of Life
Bert Kaempfert Lyrics

And I had nothing but shadows
Then one morning you passed
And I brightened at last
Now I greet the day and complete the day
With the sun in my heart
All my worry blew away
When you taught me how to say
Grab your coat and get your hat
Leave your worry on the doorstep
Just direct your feet
To the sunny side of the street
Can't you hear a pitter-pat?
And that happy tune is your step
Life can be so sweet
On the sunny side of the street
I used to walk in the shade
With those blues on parade
But I'm not afraid
This Rover crossed over
If I never have a cent
I'd be rich as Rockefeller
Gold dust at my feet
On the sunny side of the street
Grab your street
On the Sunny Side of the Street by Bert Kaempfert is a joyous tune celebrating finding love and happiness in life. The opening lyrics set the tone of the song, describing a lonely and shadowy existence before the arrival of the singer's love interest. The singer's life brightens up as soon as she appears, and the sun finds a permanent home in their heart. The chorus marks a significant shift in the narrative structure as the singer urges the listener to ditch their worries and bask in the sunshine.
The lyrics motivate the listener to embrace positivity and enjoy life, no matter their financial or social status. Bert Kaempfert writes that even if he is penniless, he feels rich enough with his love's presence in his life. He metaphorically describes the streets as sunny, implying that life can be beautiful if one focuses on positive things.
In conclusion, On the Sunny Side of the Street is a timeless classic inspiring people to look for the bright side of life. The song's message is relevant even today, where people are struggling with unprecedented stresses due to the pandemic.
