He was born in Hamburg, Germany, and studied at the School of Music there. A multi-instrumentalist, he was hired by Hans Busch to play with his orchestra before serving as a bandsman in the German Navy during World War II. He later formed his own big band, toured with them, then worked as an arranger and producer, making hit records with Freddy Quinn and Ivo Robic. In 1961, he hired The Beatles to back Tony Sheridan on "My Bonnie (Lies Over the Ocean)," "When the Saints Go Marching In," "Ain't She Sweet" and "Cry for a Shadow," in a session for Polydor. These turned out to be the Beatles' first commercial recordings. When Beatles manager Brian Epstein asked Kaempfert about further promoting The Beatles, Kaempfert informed Epstein that the company was only interested in The Beatles as Tony Sheridan's backup group. (It also turned out British Decca executive Dick Rowe turned them down in favor of local beat combo Brian Poole and the Tremeloes.) He then released The Beatles from their contract with Polydor.
Wimoweh
Bert Kaempfert Lyrics

In the jungle the mighty jungle the lion sleeps tonight
Near the village the peaceful village the lion sleeps tonight
Near the village the peaceful village the lion sleeps tonight
Hush my darling dont cry my darling the lion sleeps tonight
Hush my darling dont fear my darling the lion sleeps tonight
The song "Wimoweh" by Bert Kaempfert is a beautiful masterpiece that depicts the harmony of nature, where even the mightiest of all animals, the lion, has its time of rest. The lyrics describe the peacefulness of the jungle, where the lion sleeps, and the hush of the village that surrounds it. It further emphasizes the tranquility of the environment by encouraging loved ones not to fear or cry because the lion sleeps and no harm can come to them. It seems to suggest that even in moments of great danger, there can be moments of peace as well.
The song is often interpreted as a symbol of hope and a reminder that life is a balance between chaos and peace. The symbol of the lion, which is often regarded as a fierce and dangerous predator, relaxing and sleeping, is a powerful image that highlights the unpredictability of life. The song recognizes that there are times when things may seem out of control, but there are also moments of peace that provide comfort amidst the chaos.

Album sorti en 1962, quand même ! A cet époque l'orchestre de Bert Kaempfert avait apporté un style particulier qui se démarquait des autres formations. Merci à Florencom.

Miss Bert Kaempfert even after all these years. He went out like a true musician. Played his last concert in Spain, went back to his room & died. Too young, though. Way too soon.
