Cooler Than Me
Best Of 2010 Lyrics

If I could write you a song
And make you fall in love
I would already have you up under my arm.
I used up all of my tricks,
I hope that you like this.
But you probably won′t.
You think you're cooler than me.
You got designer shades,
Just to hide your face
And you wear them around like you′re cooler than me.
And you never say "Hey"
Or "Remember my name?"
And it's probably 'cause you think you′re cooler than me.

You got your high brow,
Shoes on your feet,
And you wear them around
Like they ain′t shit.
But you don't know the way that you look,
When your steps make that much noise.

Shh I got you all figured out,
You need everyone′s eyes just to feel seen.
Behind your make-up nobody knows who you even are
Who do you think that you are?

If I could write you a song
And make you fall in love
I would already have you up under my arm.
I used up all of my tricks,
I hope that you like this.
But you probably won't.
You think you′re cooler than me.

You got designer shades
Just to hide your face
And you wear them around like you're cooler than me.
And you never say "Hey"
Or "Remember my name?"
It′s probably 'cause you think you're cooler than me.

You got your high brow,
Switch in your walk,
And you don′t even look when you pass by.
But you don′t know the way that you look
When your steps make that much noise.
Shh.

I got you all figured out,
You need everyone's eyes just to feel seen.
Behind your make-up nobody knows who you even are
Who do you think that you are?

′Cause it sure seems ('cause it sure seems)
You got no doubts (that you got no doubts)
But we all see (we all see)
You got your head in the clouds

If I could write you a song
And make you fall in love
I would already have you up under my arm.
I used up all of my tricks,
I hope that you like this.
But you probably won′t.
You think you're cooler than me.

You got designer shades,
Just to hide your face
And you wear them around like you′re cooler than me.
And you never say "Hey"

Or "Remember my name?"
It's probably 'cause you think you′re cooler than me.

Overall Meaning

The song "Cooler than me" by Mike Posner, released in 2010, is about the artist's infatuation with a woman who he believes thinks she is better than him. The song speaks to the male ego and his quest to be seen as attractive and desired by this woman who is out of his league. Posner suggests that she is arrogant and conceited, with her designer shades and high fashion attire, and that she is not interested in him because she thinks she is "cooler" than him.

The lyrics begin with an admission that the artist has used all of his tricks to try and win this woman over but none of them have worked. Posner then goes on to describe the woman's behavior of wearing her designer shades to hide her face and refusing to acknowledge him by not saying hello or remembering his name. She walks with an air of confidence, but in doing so she's missing the attention of others, which seems to be what she craves. Posner suggests that the woman is hiding behind her makeup and designer clothes, and that nobody really knows who she is.

Posner goes on to sing that he has "got her figured out" and that she needs everyone's eyes just to feel seen. He believes she is hiding her true self behind her exterior by caring too much about what others think. In conclusion, the song is a commentary on how people use their material possessions to feel better than others, and that true beauty comes from who they are on the inside.
