Betchadupa (originally called Lazy Boy - the name change followed threatened legal action from the chair company of the same name) had its origins when Finn and Eccles met whilst their families were on holidays in New Zealand.
Their first song, written when both boys were 11, was called 'Gee This Sounds Good, I Can't Believe We Wrote It'. Their unique name is said to be named after a Polish dessert cereal.
The band's debut album, "The Alphabetchadupa", was released in 2002. Their second album, "Aiming For Your Head", was released in 2004.
The band moved to London, UK, after spending much of 2004 in Melbourne, Australia.
The band went on hiatus in 2006 while Finn pursued a solo career. It is uncertain if the band will ever reform.

These dinosaurs are here to stay
Late at night in my room
And I got scared and I scream myself to sleep
But I know that everything is fine
Yeah everythings just great
If I'm awake
These aliens are here to stay
Late at night in my room
And I got scared, I scream myself to sleep
But I know that everything is fine
Yeah everythings just great
'Coz I'm awake
Awake awake if i'm awake
Heeeeeeeey!
If I'm awake
Awake awake if I'm awake x4
The lyrics to Betchadupa's song "Awake" convey a sense of fear and insecurity that can arise when one is left alone with their thoughts in the darkness of night. The first two lines of the song, "One million miles away / These dinosaurs are here to stay," could be interpreted as a metaphor for the feeling of being stuck in one's fears, as though they are inescapable and ever-present. The following lines about being scared and screaming oneself to sleep further emphasize this feeling of being trapped by one's own anxieties.
However, the chorus of the song, "But I know that everything is fine / Yeah everythings just great / If I'm awake," introduces a sense of agency and control. The singer seems to be acknowledging that as long as they are able to remain conscious and alert, they can navigate their fears and remain safe. The repetition of the phrase "Awake awake if I'm awake" at the end of the song reinforces this idea that staying awake and aware is the key to overcoming fear.
