Fire
Beth Ditto Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hands too burnt
Sitting on the side of the road
Ain't gotta an honest feeling in my bones
Felt like a fever
Came on like a stone
But what I felt, it can't be helped no more

Get up up-up-up-up-up-up
If you want my, want my, want my, love
Get up up-up-up-up-up-up
If you want my, want my, love

Fire!
Fire!

Bless my soul, that's the way it is
Bless my soul, I can't resist

Swift as a river
With a hand as hard as stone
What's hot as hell the same, won't leave you cold
I'm a believer
My world's just good as gold
Walkin' a fine line, might not need to go

Get up up-up-up-up-up-up
If you want my, want my, want my, love
Get up up-up-up-up-up-up
If you want my, want my, want my, love

Fire!
Fire!

Bless my soul, that's the way it is
Bless my soul, I can't resist

Fire!
Fire!
Fire!
Fire!

Bless my soul, that's the way it is
Bless my soul, I can't resist

Overall Meaning

In Beth Ditto's song "Fire," she sings about her intense connection with another person that can't be ignored. The first verse, "Hands too burnt/Sitting on the side of the road/Ain't gotta an honest feeling in my bones/Felt like a fever/Came on like a stone/But what I felt, it can't be helped no more," describes how she's been hurt in the past but can't deny her feelings anymore. She's willing to take a risk and put herself out there.

In the chorus, which is repeated throughout the song, she urges the person to take action if they want her love, singing "Get up up-up-up-up-up-up/If you want my, want my, want my, love/Fire!/Fire!/Bless my soul, that's the way it is/Bless my soul, I can't resist." She's calling on them to show her they're committed and to ignite the passion between them.

In the second verse, she compares their love to a river that's swift and unstoppable, with a hard hand like stone. Even though it can be intense and hot like hell, the connection won't leave them cold. She's a "believer" and values the relationship, but acknowledges that they're walking a fine line.

Overall, "Fire" is a powerful song about taking a risk on love and acknowledging the intense feelings that come with it.

I think there's a lot of people who don't realise how underappreciated she is as a vocalist.
She has such such an unique funky raspy tone of voice, unique style and presence and gives me the chills everytime I hear her.

Kerri, her weight does not impede her talent or her ambition. What do YOU do? Your hate is a perfect peek inside your fearful, angry, sad, lonely soul.

Destati

Because her weight has anything to do with her ability to do her job, which is SING. Get a life.
