Ditto came to wider public attention in November 2006 when she was selected by NME as the coolest person in rock - placing at number one in the magazine's annual Cool List. The magazine cited her 'non-conformity' as the reason for her selection - she is a lesbian, an outspoken advocate of gay rights, and a punk.
Her debut release was the self-titled EP, "Beth Ditto", in 2011.
In 2017, her newest album "Fake Sugar" came out.

Close your eyes and come with me
To go where the evening comes undone
Late at night in the city streets
I feel the need to see the streets
I go where you'll always find someone yeah
Is it good night, is it good morning
You're like a vision I can't control
We're in a movie I'm playing a role
I can be by myself sometimes
But I won't be by myself tonight
The sun comes out and suddenly
Something's happening inside of me
I wanna now where the silence has come from
Is it good night, is it good morning
Is this real life, are you performing
You're like a vision I can't control
We're in a movie I'm playing a role
I can be by myself sometimes
But I won't be by myself tonight
I can be by myself sometimes
But I won't be by myself tonight
Oh no
Oh no
Oh no
Oh no
Oh no
Oh no
Oh no
Oh no
Good night, good morning
Good night, good morning
Good night, good morning
The song "Goodnight Good Morning" by Beth Ditto is an interesting and introspective exploration of the duality and complexity of life. The song begins with the invitation to the listener to come on a journey, to a place where "the evening comes undone". This suggests a desire to break away from the mundanity and the routine of daily life, and to experience something more profound and raw.
The song then progresses to a contemplation of the nature of reality, with the repetition of the question, "Is it good night, is it good morning?" suggesting a confusion and uncertainty about the time and place that one is in. The lines, "You're like a vision I can't control, we're in a movie I'm playing a role" further extend this theme of the separation between the real and the imagined, with the singer feeling powerless to direct or control their own life.
The song ends with a repetition of the line, "I can be by myself sometimes, but I won't be by myself tonight", suggesting a willingness to break out of one's own isolation and engage with the world around them. Through this exploration of the disconnect between appearance and reality, the song ultimately suggests a desire for connection and to break free from the limitations and boundaries of everyday life.
