For My Friends
Beth Hart Lyrics

Or we will never be friends again
Let's have a drink and talk it over
I wanna keep you for my date
We're here today and gone tomorrow oh
None of us knows when life will end
I said some things that caused you sorrow
A-ha oh ha
A-ha oh ho
Yeah
Oh ho
One of us has to say he's sorry
Or we will never be friends again
Let's have a little drink and talk it over oh
I wanna keep you for my friend
We're here today and gone tomorrow oh
None of us knows when life will end
I said some nasty things that caused you sorrow
But I wanna keep you for my friend hey
Aha oh ho
Aha oh ho
Oh
Oh ho
The lyrics to "For My Friend" by Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa are centered around the idea of forgiveness and maintaining friendships through tough times. The opening lines "One of us has to say he's sorry yeah / Or we will never be friends again" sets the tone for the song, implying that the duo may have had a falling out or disagreement that caused tension between them. However, they both understand the importance of resolving issues in order to preserve their friendship, which is evident in the line "Let's have a drink and talk it over / I wanna keep you for my friend".
The second verse emphasizes the fragility and unpredictability of life, which further emphasizes the need to resolve issues before it's too late. The line "None of us knows when life will end" serves as a reminder that nothing is guaranteed, not even friendships. Despite causing each other sorrow with hurtful words, the singer expresses their desire to maintain the friendship because it's worth fighting for.
Overall, "For My Friend" is a powerful reminder of the importance of forgiveness in maintaining meaningful relationships. The lyrics encourage listeners to confront issues head-on and to prioritize preserving connections with their loved ones.
