Over You
Beth Hart Lyrics

I can hardly breath
I am drowning in the dark
Wrong is never right still I'm breaking bones
& every part of me
I hear the pounding of my heart
Mama I can hardly wait
Chew it up and spill it out
Finally see what love's about
I'm living loving laughing over you
Tossing Turning Trying over you
Kicking Screaming Crying over you
Wanting Needing Dying to get over you
Mama always said that "you'll know better
When you do grow up"
"all you gotta do is breath"
"Take a little look inside yourself
& see what turns you on
And then you will finally see"
Well mama I can hardly wait
To take a little chance on fate
Kick it up into the sky
Finally see what love feels like
I'm living loving laughing over you
Tossing Turning Trying over you
Kicking Screaming Crying over you
Wanting Needing Dying to get over you
I'm living loving laughing over you
Tossing Turning Trying over you
Kicking Screaming Crying over you
Wanting Needing Dying to get over you
The lyrics of Beth Hart's "Over You" convey the pain and frustration of being stuck in a tumultuous relationship. The opening lines express a feeling of complete isolation and despair, as the singer describes feeling lonelier than a sinking stone and drowning in darkness. The next few lines suggest that despite knowing that what they are doing is wrong, they are still unable to extricate themselves from the toxic relationship, and are metaphorically breaking bones in the process. The pounding of their heart serves as a constant reminder of their attachment to a person who is not good for them.
The chorus of the song is an expression of the singer's determination to move on from the relationship, no matter how difficult it may be. The repetition of words like "kicking, screaming, crying" emphasize the emotional turmoil that they are going through, while the phrase "living, loving, laughing" suggests that they are gradually rediscovering joy and fulfillment in their life outside of the relationship. Throughout the song, the singer refers to their mother's advice, suggesting that they have a strong support system in their life that they can turn to.

Beth sings from her life's experience. That's what makes a true artist. Being unafraid to show the world your scars, triumphs etc... Putting your heart and soul out there is a fear that rarely is overcome. She's fearless and speaks to me as a woman who has gone through a lot of pain. Her bravery helps me not feel alone. I love you Beth. Thank you for sharing your story

This ladies vocal talents are just something else, and her song writing is straight from the heart. I discovered Beth when watching her with Joe Bonamassa, and since then I simply can't get enough.
