Wicked Game
Betoko Vs Gemma Hayes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The world is on fire and no one can save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I'd never dream that I'd meet somebody like you
I'ld never dream that I'd lose somebody like you

No I don't want to fall in love
(this world is only gonna break your heart)
No I don't want to fall in love
(this world is only gonna break your heart)
With you

What a wicked game to play to make me feel this way
What a wicked thing to do to let me dream of you
What a wicked thing to say you'll never feel this way
What a wicked thing to do to make me dream of you

And I don't want to fall in love
(this world is only gonna break your heart)
No I don't want to fall in love
(this world is only gonna break your heart)
With you

The world is on fire and no one can save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I'll never dream that I'd love somebody like you
I'll never dream that I'd lose somebody like you

No I don't want to fall in love
(this world is only gonna break your heart)
No I don't want to fall in love

(this world is only gonna break your heart)
With you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Betoko Vs Gemma Hayes's song Wicked Game convey the feeling of being lost in desire and the turmoil that ensues. The world is depicted as being on fire and the only refuge is the person they are addressing. The lyrics express a mix of confusion, despair, and longing. The singer acknowledges that desire can drive people to do foolish things, but under the circumstances presented in the lyrics, they can't help but feel overwhelmed by their desire for the other person.

The refrain, "No, I don't want to fall in love," is repeated throughout the song, indicating a conflict between the desire for love and the fear of getting hurt. The lyrics seem to say that love is an unpredictable and risky game and that engaging in it can cause pain and heartbreak. However, despite the potential consequences, the singer cannot help but feel drawn to the other person.

The song's music video features Betoko and Gemma Hayes being haunted by a mysterious woman who leads them through dreams of love and desire. The video has drawn comparisons to the movie Inception, with the woman representing the idea of a desired love that is ultimately unattainable.

At first, I would've find hard to imagine getting a decent, likeable remixed version of this song "The wicked game" but . . . and to my total surprise and disbelief . . . this version came out EXTREMELY beautifully made, so SENSUAL, so SEXY and so SMOOTH that is a pure delight, total & pure enjoyment to my ears listening to this remix many times. Having said this . . . I already lost count of how many times I felt compelled / simply irresistible to go back and listen to it again . . . again . . . again . . . and . . . WONDERFUL !!!

There is something entrancing about this song. It's amazing. You feel like you're escaping to a magical world when you listen to this. Gemma Hayes (I'm assuming that's the vocalist's name) did a good job with voicing this.
