She first came to mainstream prominence in the late 1980s and early 1990s following a collaboration with The Beatmasters. Her subsequent solo career spawned a number of chart-placing singles, most notably Doin' The Do in 1990.

@Klara klarisa Yes you are correct, Betty is a white Jewish girl/woman. My icon of Betty is black, because I am a POC. It is a tribute to the African-American women that pioneered the scat-singing before Betty Boop took on the trait. It was their thing, Betty is an imitation of an imitation. If it wasn't for Ester Jones and those other performers, our Betty Boop wouldn't be here today, she would have been stopped by Helen Kane's injunction. Betty Boop has had brown skin in a few cartoons and Betty has also been other races, she had darker skin and was Native-American (Red Indian) in Accordion Joe and also has darker skin as a Pacific Islander in Stopping the Show, Popeye the Sailor and Bamboo Isle.

@Galaxy Starrs The Fleischer Studios didn't actually create Betty Boop. They stole her from Grim Natwick. He used a white singer by the name of Helen Kane to create the base for Betty. It was a one-shot parody, making fun of Kane. Betty was supposed to have only been seen once but the Fleischers kept distributing cartoons. Helen would sue over Betty Boop copying her. But it later came out that Helen Kane coined her scat-singing technique from a little black girl in 1928 by the name of Ester Jones who had been scatting since 1925. Turns out the girl was imitating Florence Mills who in turn was emulating Gertrude Saunders. So technically Betty Boop has black grandmothers in her background because her boop-a-doop routine indirectly links to the Broadway musical Shuffle Along.
