The Waltz
Betty and the Boy Lyrics

The song "The Waltz" by Betty and the Boy talks about the concept of time and its impact on memories and relationships. The lyrics convey the idea that time is a "hungry beast" that consumes memories and causes loved ones to fade away. The lyrics use metaphors to describe the fleeting nature of memories and emotions, such as "all smells and colors fade" and "love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love."
However, the song also expresses a sense of hope and appreciation for the present moment. The lyrics state that the person singing has found their "wildest wish come true" in their love for someone else. They celebrate the way this love moves them and acknowledge that they never thought they would find someone to love them in this way. The song also reveals that there is a third presence in the relationship—the "hungry beast" of time itself. Despite its looming presence, the singer asserts their control over it by "putting two saddles on its back" and refusing to let it dictate the fate of their relationship.
Overall, "The Waltz" is a poignant meditation on the nature of love and time. It acknowledges the transient and unpredictable nature of both, but ultimately emphasizes the importance of living in the present and cherishing the moments we have with the people we love.
