Bloom
Between the Buried and Me Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In bloom we come
Tentacles swing with the waters breeze
In bloom we
Crowd around
Drift down slowly
Get rid of your undesirable oxygen
In bloom we grow
Together as one
This underwater village
Bebop skippity tippity tap those toes
Queen sea will take you in
This is your new home now
Ignore the laughter
We will not hurt you
Your last wishes
Queen Sea will take you in
In bloom we know what life is all about
With not a worry in the world
Let the water move you
Move to the sweet sway of nutrition
Move to the sweet sway of melody
Queen Sea will give back life
We used you
Your purpose is clear
We never knew
Floating back to the surface
(Tentacle hearse transportation
Actual happenings or the distant mind?)
The lyrics of "Bloom" by Between the Buried and Me are heavily metaphorical and open to personal interpretation. The song seems to be describing an underwater civilization that invites the listener to join them in their way of life. The line "Get down here and sing the songs we sing" suggests that the civilization has a unique culture and way of expressing themselves that they want the listener to participate in. The line "Tentacles swing with the waters breeze" implies that the civilization is not human, instead they have tentacles which sway with the movement of the water. The phrase "In bloom we" that appears frequently throughout the song emphasizes the unity and togetherness of the civilization.
The second verse of the song seems to speak directly to the listener, encouraging them to abandon their life on the surface and join the underwater civilization. The line "Get rid of your undesirable oxygen" suggests that the listener must give up their old way of life in order to live in the underwater world. The concept of "In bloom we grow together" emphasizes the community aspect of the civilization, suggesting that everyone is equal and valuable. The line "Queen sea will take you in" shows that the civilization is led by someone or something, and that they have the power to accept newcomers.
The final portion of the song, beginning with "Your last wishes," is particularly enigmatic. The line "We never knew" implies that the civilization has some sort of secret or hidden goal, and that the listener may not fully understand what they are joining. The final line, "Floating back to the surface," indicates that the listener has the option to leave if they choose to.
