The three were subsequently joined by Steve LaFolette (bass & vocals), Pat Noel (keyboards & guitar), Steve St. Cin (drums), and Ana Pitchon, who toured as Beulah in 1998, before recording When Your Heartstrings Break. Bill Evans (keyboards) then joined the band to play live. Steve St. Cin left the band to be replaced by Danny Sullivan, before The Coast is Never Clear was released in 2000. Bill Evans and Steve LaFolette then left, to be replaced by Pat Abernathy and Eli Crews respectively. Beulah went on to record 2003's Yoko, then toured North America and Europe before a goodbye show on August 5th 2004, in New York.
A DVD, A Good Band is Easy to Kill was released in 2005 and features documentary footage from Beulah's 2003 tour.
Don't Forget To Breathe
Beulah Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
there's too many hours and no one deserts.
I don't need your love.
Landmines hiding your lines.
Too many knives and not enough signs.
I don't' need your love.
Cause in my dreams I'm dying.
Wait for light, to kill the night.
But is it worth me trying.
A deep breathe out on the steps.
Is it the air you feel in your chest.
I don't need your love.
Okay, you state your claim.
It's only blood you have in your veins.
I don't need your love.
So lie awake. Wide awake.
Cause in my dreams I'm dying.
The sun will rise. The moon will die.
But is it worth me trying?
And it's so late. Where will you stay?
It makes no difference, 'cause it's all a dream.
And tomorrow I'll wake. Tomorrow I'll wake.
It makes no difference. It makes no difference.
Lie awake.
Time will take all the dreams we're dying.
Close your eyes. The moon will sigh.
Is it worth me trying?
The lyrics in "Don't Forget to Breathe" by Beulah are open to interpretation and can be perceived as a message about ending a relationship, whether it be romantic or platonic. The singer states that the other person's "last words will not be heard," indicating that perhaps the person didn't take the time to say what they wanted to say or resolve issues before leaving. The line "landmines hiding your lines" suggests that there were communication issues in the relationship and the other person may have been hiding their true feelings.
The singer also declares that they don't need the other person's love, indicating that they are ready to move on. The lines "so lie awake, cause in my dreams I'm dying" suggest that the singer is struggling with their emotions and may be feeling overwhelmed or consumed by their thoughts. The line "wait for light to kill the night, but is it worth me trying?" indicates that the singer is questioning whether or not it's worth it to try to make things work with the other person.
The line "a deep breathe out on the steps, is it the air you feel in your chest" is a bit ambiguous but can be interpreted as the singer taking a deep breath and feeling a sense of relief or freedom after ending the relationship. The final lines of the song "time will take all the dreams we're dying, close your eyes, the moon will sigh, is it worth me trying?" suggest that time will eventually heal all wounds and the singer is once again questioning whether or not it's worth trying to fix what has been broken.

So fortunate to have been at their final performance at Castle Clinton NYC. Was amazing even with the downpour. My best friend and I were the only ones that stood there in the rain while they continued to perform. Was so memorable it was like it was yesterday and that was August 2004.
