Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Beyoncé began performing in local competitions at age 7, eventually forming the group Girl's Tyme in 1990 with help from her parents. Girl's Tyme became Destiny's Child in 1997.
During the hiatus of Destiny's Child in 2003, Beyoncé released her debut solo album, Dangerously in Love, which became one of the most successful albums of that year, and signaled her viability as a solo artist. The disbanding of Destiny's Child in 2005 facilitated her continued success: her sophomore solo album B'Day, released in 2006, debuted at number one on the Billboard charts. Her third solo album, I Am… Sasha Fierce, was released in November 2008, and in 2009 she received 10 Grammy Awards nominations. On January 31, 2010, she won 6 Grammy Awards, breaking the record for most Grammy awards won by a female artist in one night; she previously held the record of five awards with 5 other artists. You told me exactly how it would be
You had a lady
And couldn't spend all your time with me
I only wanted to kick it
So I said, "Cool, you can keep her
'Long as you satisfy me"
I, I started feeling strange
Somethin' was deep in my heart
Somethin' I can't explain
I think I'm fallin' in love with you, boy
I'm needin' you so much
I'm cryin' just to feel your touch
I gotta leave you (let's go)
I didn't wanna man (a man)
I didn't wanna fall in love and
I didn't care about your girl (your girl)
I didn't care how we would end up
But that was then, this is now
I think I'm experiencing love
I don't wanna wreck up your home
That's why I'm convinced I gotta go
When I first met you
You told me exactly how it would be
You had a lady
And couldn't spend all your time with me
I only wanted to kick it
So I said, "Cool, you can keep her
'Long as you satisfy me"
But as the weeks went by
I, I started feeling strange
Somethin' was deep in my heart
Somethin' I can't explain
I think I'm fallin' in love with you, boy
I'm needin' you so much
I'm cryin' just to feel your touch
I gotta leave you
Every time she calls you expect (you expect)
Me to disappear like we never met
At first I didn't mind, but now I (but now, I)
Sometimes feel like you're all mine
You told me it was all about me, me, me
It's not about me if you're still with her
Now I realized that I gotta move on
It might be hard but, I
I gotta move on
When I first met you
You told me exactly how it would be
You had a lady
And couldn't spend all your time with me
I only wanted to kick it
So I said, "Cool, you can keep her
'Long as you satisfy me"
But as the weeks went by
I, I started feeling strange
Somethin' was deep in my heart
Somethin' I can't explain
I think I'm fallin' in love with you, boy
I'm needin' you so much
I'm cryin' just to feel your touch
I gotta leave you
I gotta leave you (I gotta leave you)
I gotta leave you (I gotta leave you)
I gotta leave you (I gotta leave you)
Gotta, gotta leave you (gotta leave you)
I gotta leave you (I gotta leave you)
I gotta leave you (gotta leave you)
-First met you
You told me exactly how it would be
You had a lady
And couldn't spend all your time with me
I only wanted to kick it
So I said, "Cool, you can keep her
'Long as you satisfy me"
But as the weeks went by
I
The lyrics of "I'm Leaving" by Beyoncé depict a situation of a woman who meets a man who is already committed to someone else, but she decides to continue seeing him despite knowing his situation. She just wants to have fun with him and doesn't care about his girlfriend until she realizes that she has fallen in love with him. She is torn between her feelings for him and her ethics, which makes her decide to leave him to avoid wrecking his home. In the end, she accepts that she needs to move on and leave him.
Beyoncé relates to several women who have found themselves in a similar situation of falling in love with someone who is, at least at the beginning, unavailable. The lyrics tell a story of accepting your feelings, realizing the consequences of your actions, and being courageous to walk away. The lines also show the internal battle that people go through when having to choose between love and morality, making it a real and relatable song.
In conclusion, "I'm Leaving" is a well-written piece that reveals a common love scenario that many people can relate to. It tells the story of an emotional battle that a person goes through when they can't help their feelings despite knowing the consequences.
