Love Drought
Beyoncé Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But nine times outta ten, I know you're trying
So I'm trying to be fair
And you're trying to be there and to care
And you're caught up in your permanent emotions
All the loving I've been giving goes unnoticed
It's just floating in the air, lookie there
Are you aware you're my lifeline, are you tryna kill me
Like on my worst day?
Or am I not thirsty, enough?
I don't care about the lights or the beams
Spend my life in the dark for the sake of you and me
Only way to go is up, skin thick, too tough
'Cause you, you, you, you and me could move a mountain
You, you, you, you and me could calm a war down
You, you, you, you and me could make it rain now
You, you, you, you and me could stop this love drought
Nine times out of ten, I'm in my feelings
But ten times out of nine, I'm only human
Tell me, what did I do wrong?
Feel like that question has been posed
I'm movin' on
I'll always be committed, I been focused
I always paid attention, been devoted
Tell me, what did I do wrong?
Oh, already asked that, my bad
But you my lifeline, think you tryna kill me?
If I wasn't me, would you still feel me?
Like on my worst day?
Or am I not thirsty, enough?
I don't care about the lights or the beams
Spend my life in the dark for the sake of you and me
Only way to go is up, them old bitches so wack
I'm so tough, wassup?
'Cause you, you, you, you and me could move a mountain
You, you, you, you and me could calm a war down
You, you, you, you and me could make it rain now
You, you, you, you and me would stop this love drought
You and me would stop this love drought
In Beyoncé's song Love Drought, the first two lines describe a situation where the singer knows her partner is lying most of the time. She also knows that her partner is trying to be better, so she's trying to be fair in the relationship. However, her partner seems to be stuck in their permanent emotions, which causes them to overlook all the love that she has been giving. The singer then questions whether her partner understands that she's their "lifeline" or if they are trying to hurt her instead.
The chorus brings up the idea that the two of them together are a powerful force that can "move a mountain" and "calm a war down." They could even "stop this love drought" between them. Then, the second verse repeats the idea that the singer is moving on and trying to find what she did wrong. She reminds her partner that she has always been committed, focused, and devoted to the relationship.
The song touches on the themes of love and trust in a relationship. The lyrics suggest that even though there might be lying and misunderstandings, both partners are still trying to make things work. The chorus empowers the idea that together they can achieve anything and solve their problems. It's a message of hope and dedication to someone you love.

Ten times out of nine, I know you're lying
I know you're lying to me pretty much always
But nine times outta ten, I know you're trying
I know you're also trying to make things ok with me
So I'm trying to be fair
I'm trying to be fair in this relationship
And you're trying to be there and to care
You're trying to be present and care about me
And you're caught up in your permanent emotions
You're always entrenched in your emotions
All the loving I've been giving goes unnoticed
You're not appreciating the love that I'm giving to you
It's just floating in the air, lookie there
My love is just out there, and you're not paying any attention
Are you aware you're my lifeline, are you tryna kill me
Do you realize that you're my support in life, or are you trying to hurt me purposely
If I wasn't me, would you still feel me?
If I were a different person, would you still love me?
Like on my worst day?
Would you still care for me even on the lowest day of my life?
Or am I not thirsty, enough?
Do you think that I'm not putting in enough effort?
I don't care about the lights or the beams
I don't care about fame and success
Spend my life in the dark for the sake of you and me
I'm willing to live in obscurity for us
Only way to go is up, skin thick, too tough
The only direction is up, and I'm strong and resilient enough to handle it
'Cause you, you, you, you and me could move a mountain
Together, we could achieve anything
You, you, you, you and me could calm a war down
We have the power to bring peace to a difficult situation
You, you, you, you and me could make it rain now
We have the power to make things happen
You, you, you, you and me could stop this love drought
Together, we can stop this dry patch in our relationship
Nine times out of ten, I'm in my feelings
I'm usually sensitive and emotional
But ten times out of nine, I'm only human
But I'm only human, and these things affect me
Tell me, what did I do wrong?
Please let me know if I did something wrong?
Feel like that question has been posed
It seems like I've already asked that question before
I'm movin' on
I'm moving on from this negativity
I'll always be committed, I been focused
I'm always committed and focused in our relationship
I always paid attention, been devoted
I'm dedicated and attentive to you
Oh, already asked that, my bad
Sorry, I realized that I already asked that question
But you my lifeline, think you tryna kill me?
You're still important to me, but it feels like you're trying to hurt me
If I wasn't me, would you still feel me?
If I were different, would you still love me?
Like on my worst day?
Even if I were at my worst, would you still love me?
Or am I not thirsty, enough?
Do you think that I need to be doing more?
I don't care about the lights or the beams
I don't care about fame and success
Spend my life in the dark for the sake of you and me
I'm willing to live in obscurity for us
Only way to go is up, them old bitches so wack
The only way is forward, and the past is irrelevant
I'm so tough, wassup?
I'm strong and ready for whatever comes my way
'Cause you, you, you, you and me could move a mountain
Together, we could achieve anything
You, you, you, you and me could calm a war down
We have the power to bring peace to a difficult situation
You, you, you, you and me could make it rain now
We have the power to make things happen
You, you, you, you and me would stop this love drought
Together, we can stop this dry patch in our relationship

I am not hating on Adele, nor her album 25. I am hurting by the fact that Lemonade didn't win the Album of the Year. This album is beyond your normal romance and heartbreak album. This cries justice to the social and political imbalance. This cries amends to relationships that are broken. When the winner of the Album of the Year says she doesn't deserve it, isn't that representative of a faulty voting system? Lemonade is THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR.
