Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Beyoncé began performing in local competitions at age 7, eventually forming the group Girl's Tyme in 1990 with help from her parents. Girl's Tyme became Destiny's Child in 1997.
During the hiatus of Destiny's Child in 2003, Beyoncé released her debut solo album, Dangerously in Love, which became one of the most successful albums of that year, and signaled her viability as a solo artist. The disbanding of Destiny's Child in 2005 facilitated her continued success: her sophomore solo album B'Day, released in 2006, debuted at number one on the Billboard charts. Her third solo album, I Am… Sasha Fierce, was released in November 2008, and in 2009 she received 10 Grammy Awards nominations. On January 31, 2010, she won 6 Grammy Awards, breaking the record for most Grammy awards won by a female artist in one night; she previously held the record of five awards with 5 other artists. But you gotta trust in me
To be strong and responsible
'Cause I think I'm in love
I know you think I'm young and naive
But you gotta trust in me
To be strong and responsible
Don't try to tell me this ain't real (I know I'm young)
It's in the way he makes me feel (I know I'm young)
I think my baby is the one (I know I'm young)
It's in the way he holds it down (I know I'm young)
I know you think that this is real (You're too young)
I know exactly how you feel (You're too young)
Too young to know if he's the one (You're too young)
Girl, you got time, so slow it down
I know you think I'm young and naive
But you gotta trust in me
To be strong and responsible
'Cause I think I'm in love
I know you think I'm young and naive
But you gotta trust in me
To be strong and responsible
'Cause I think I'm in love
Solange, you might love the boy
Even sneak around the corner, kiss and hug the boy
But Beyonce been there before
And she don't want nobody to hurt you
'Cause Matthew would drill the boy
And I can't ignore that you young
We just don't want you to get sprung
On some young dumb-dumb with no crumbs
Get all up in your heart and then run
Getting your heart broke is no fun
But neither is somebody tellin' you that he not the one
You gotta learn for yourself though
And if you don't experience things, you'll never know
I don't want you wishin' you coulda, woulda, shoulda but you didn't
Listenin' to other people's advice, it's your life
Make your own decisions, honey, really
It's too complicated to explain my relationship
My friends are hatin' 'cause they ain't feelin' what I'm feelin'
Leave me alone and just let me be
Find your own thing and get off of me
It's not complicated, girl, I've been where you are before
I'm not underratin', I'm just tryin' to protect your feelings
Solange, listen to me, understand what I'm saying
Maybe you'll realize one day how much I care
I know you think I'm young and naive
But you gotta trust in me
To be strong and responsible
'Cause I think I'm in love
I know you think I'm young and naive
But you gotta trust in me
To be strong and responsible
'Cause I think I'm in love
I know you think I'm young and naive
But you gotta trust in me
To be strong and responsible
'Cause I think I'm in love
I know you think I'm young and naive
But you gotta trust in me
To be strong and responsible
'Cause I think I'm in love
The lyrics to Beyonce's song Naive speak about a young woman who believes she is in love with someone and is seeking validation from those around her. Beyonce admits that she understands what the young woman is feeling, having been in her shoes before, but urges her to slow down and take her time. The chorus, repeated twice, emphasizes that Beyonce knows she may be perceived as young and naive, but she wants to be trusted to make her own decisions and be responsible. She insists that her love feels real, and though others may doubt her feelings, it's clear to her that he's "the one."
The bridge of the song notes that the relationship is too complicated to explain and that her friends are not understanding her feelings. Beyonce asks for space and for others to respect her choices, which may not be the same as theirs. She realizes that others may have certain information and experiences that she does not, but she also acknowledges that she needs to make her own decisions and learn from her own mistakes.
Overall, the song is relatable to anyone who has ever felt young and in love, but also to those who have felt criticized or doubted by those around them. It's a reminder that everyone needs to make their own choices and mistakes in life, but also that seeking advice and guidance from those you trust can be invaluable.
