He was considered the "ambassador" of the Favelas ( Brazilian Shanty Towns ). He was the singer of the Malandragem.
Bezerra was knowledgeable about life in the favelas, and the songs he sang are filled with slang terms having to do with drug dealing, the law, etc., and are often humorous. Later in life, not long before his passing, Bezerra gave up this life and became an evangelical Christian.
O Bom Sofredor
Bezerra da Silva Lyrics

Tudo bem tudo legal
In Bezerra da Silva's "O Bom Sofredor," the artist shares a positive outlook on life despite the hardships he faces. The song speaks of the "goodness" in suffering and how one should not complain about it. Bezerra da Silva admits that life can be tough but he perseveres with a positive attitude. He states that while he may not have money, he has his health and that is something valuable. The chorus repeats the phrase "Eu sei que às vezes dói," which translates to "I know it hurts sometimes," acknowledging the pain that can come with life's challenges.
The verse where Bezerra da Silva talks about not having a pair of shoes to wear is particularly poignant, as he explains that he simply waits for his clothes to dry when he needs to wash them. Despite this, he continues to keep a good attitude, noting that he has experienced suffering since he was a child and has learned to accept it as a fact of life. The song encourages listeners to adopt a similar perseverance and not let difficult times bring them down.
