To the ice rink
The back of your skidoo made me all wet
(From snow)
You'd pat me on the head as we stole
Your dad's Chevrolet, one more time
I bought new hiking boots
So you'd think I was cool
(You didn't care, cause you never knew I was alive)
I never wanted anything
The way I wanted you, that night
My love transcended space and time
I never wanted anything
The way I wanted you, that night
My love transcended space and time
My first
You used to ride yer red and white dirt bike
I'd hold yer jacket close to my heart so tight
My mom woke me up, early and said,
"Look what yer friends did to my front yard!"
It was me and my sisters, out my window
There it was!
There, baby!
You peed my name in the snow!
I never wanted anything
The way I wanted you that night
My love transcended space and time
I never wanted anything
The way I wanted you that night
My love transcended space and time
My first
(Meet me in the school yard, after eight
Still grounded, I couldn't stay out late
Remember all the things you said
In the back of that Chevrolet
When we were only fifteen?)
My daddy moved us to a big city
Yer smiling face, I never again did see no more
I wonder how you are, and I wonder
If you think about me still
Would you guess what I'm doing?
You and yer friends
I want you to remember that you were my first
We are lucky to have something to eat
Everything happens for a reason,
And that's good to remember
'Cause the music business is really, really weird.
The lyrics to Bif Naked's song "Anything" describe a nostalgic longing for a past love. The singer reminisces on memories of spending time with the person they loved, such as following them and their friends to the ice rink, stealing a car together, and carving their names in the snow. Despite the fact that the person they loved never gave them any attention, the singer's love for them was all-encompassing and transcendent. The song ends with the singer wondering what their past love is doing now and hoping that they remember that they were their first.
The lyrics are relatable to anyone who has experienced unrequited love and the pain of a past relationship. The use of specific details, such as the red and white dirt bike and peeing one's name in the snow, adds a touch of authenticity and intimacy to the song. The repetition of the line "I never wanted anything the way I wanted you that night" emphasizes the intense longing and desire the singer feels for their past love.
