Crash and Burn
Bif Naked Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You sink to my level, just like a stone
on your way back to the ground.
You wonder what happened to make me different.
I'm impatient when you are around.

You're alone.
But you get what you deserve.
Now, we are alone.
But we get what we deserve.

If I am alive for the first time.
I must have died inside
so I could let go
of things that weren't mine.
I'm crashing and burning.
You're crashing and burning.
We're crashing and burning.

If only you listened to words I say,
and hear them for what they are.
I'm hopeful and foolish,
but you never change.

And, that's something I know in my heart.

You're a "star."
But nothing about you shines.
I am a star.
And we get what we deserve.

If I am alive for the first time.
I must have died inside
so I could let go
of things that weren't mine.
I'm crashing and burning.
You're crashing and burning.
We're crashing and burning.

You and me will never learn!

Cause we get what we deserve!
Baby, we were meant to burn!

Overall Meaning

The song Crash and Burn by Bif Naked speaks of a toxic relationship where the singer has been hurt and is tired of the games but the other person is still trying to cling on to the past. The lines "You're alone. But you get what you deserve. Now, we are alone. But we get what we deserve" paint the picture of two people who are trying to hold on to something that is no longer working out. They are reaping the consequences of their past actions and are now alone. The line "If only you listened to words I say, and hear them for what they are. I'm hopeful and foolish, but you never change. And, that's something I know in my heart" suggests that the singer has tried to get their point across but the other person is not willing to listen, and so they continue to repeat the same patterns.

The chorus of the song "If I am alive for the first time. I must have died inside, so I could let go of things that weren't mine. I'm crashing and burning. You're crashing and burning. We're crashing and burning" is about letting go of the past and moving forward. The crashing and burning may represent a feeling of rock bottom, or it may represent the emotional turmoil that comes with letting go of something that once meant a lot. The line "Baby, we were meant to burn" could be interpreted as the idea that the relationship was never meant to work and that the only way out is to let it burn.
