Wild Bird
Big Bang Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wild Bird flying
Sing a song that I can't capture
I'll make it up to you somehow

High my hat was hung there for a while
On a pole set up Norwegian style
Ready to show them what I can
Little bird came flying by
And as northern flames light up the sky
That bird was singing out of range
And I got lost into a haze
He couldn't pick me up so I took him down
To be the centre of my crown
And I thought he'd make the change
He was singing out of range

Wild bird flying
Sing a song I can't capture
I'll make it up to you
Wild bird flying
Sing a song I can't capture
I'll make it up to you
If you can understand and now
I'm gonna make it up to you somehow
I'm gonna make it up to you somehow

You know it will never be the same
Truly wild will never tame
And I think it is a shame

'Cause all of the sudden he stopped singing his song
I lost my mind and all went wrong
I've got a heavy hand

Wild bird flying
Sing a song I can't capture
I'll make it up to you
Wild bird flying
Sing a song I can't capture
I'll make it up to you
If you can understand and now
I'm gonna make it up to you somehow
I'm gonna make it up to you somehow
I'm gonna make it up to you somehow
Wild bird flying
I'm gonna make it up to you somehow
Wild bird flying
I'm gonna make it up to you somehow
Wild bird flying
I'm gonna make it up to you somehow

Wild bird flying
I'm gonna make it up to you somehow

Overall Meaning

In "Wild Bird," Big Bang sings about the struggle to capture and hold onto something that is elusive and untamed. The lyrics are filled with vivid imagery of a wild bird flying and singing a song that our protagonist cannot capture. The bird represents an ineffable element of nature or life that our protagonist is desperate to seize and make his own. He hangs his "hat" high and prepares to show the world what he can do, but is interrupted by the bird's song, which takes him away from his focus and sends him into a "haze."

The chorus, in which our protagonist promises to make things right with the bird somehow, adds a layer of desperation to the song. He knows that he cannot control the wild bird or its song, but he wants to make amends for his failure to capture it. The final lines of the song, in which our protagonist promises to make it up to the bird somehow, are filled with a sense of resignation: he knows that he cannot control the bird or its song, but he is determined to make amends anyway.
