Broonzy was a complete genius on the guitar.

BIG BILL BROONZY : GENIAL !

Just a note: I am quite sure this is recorded in 1930, not in 1932. Frank Brasswell is the 2nd guitarist, not Steele Smith (as in the 1932 recordings) However-a great song!

This version is great but like many music of this era it's a little bit sped up. You can see that because when you play the guitar you have to put a capo on the 1st fret (it's in F tonality, but E position), and big bill broonzy didn't do that for most of his songs. You can see another version with real speed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6H7358pQ0BE, the groove is different when it's played slower.

As far as I know, he played a monotonic base with a melody floated over it. It sounds like a bass player is in the background.

Who was the first to play a bass line on the guitar? Was it Maybelle Carter? I haven't heard anything before her.
