DON'T FEAR THE REAPER
Big Country Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[Written by Blue Oyster Cult]

All our times have come
Here but now they're gone
Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain
We can be like they are
Come on baby... Don't fear the Reaper
Baby take my hand... Don't fear the Reaper
We'll be able to fly... Don't fear the Reaper
Baby I'm your man...

Valentine is done
Here but now they're gone
Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity...
Romeo and Juliet

40,000 men and women everyday... Like Romeo and
Juliet
40,000 men and women everyday... Redefine
Happiness
Another 40,000 coming everyday...We can be like
They are

Come on baby... Don't fear the Reaper
Baby take my hand... Don't fear the Reaper
We'll be able to fly... Don't fear the Reaper
Baby I'm your man...

Love of two is one
Here but now they're gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear we couldn't go on
The door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew and then disappeared
The curtains flew then he appeared
Saying don't be afraid

Come on baby... And we had no fear
And we ran to him... Then we started to fly
We looked backward and said goodbye
We had become like they are
We had taken his hand
We had become like they are

Come on baby...don't fear the reaper

Overall Meaning

The song "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult tells a story about love and death. The lyrics mostly revolve around the idea that death is not something to be feared as it is a natural part of life. It acknowledges that everything and everyone has a limited time, but not to let that hinder the experience of life.

The song starts off talking about the inevitable end of things. The seasons, wind, sun and rain do not fear the reaper, indicating that it is a force of nature that one should not be afraid of. The chorus then urges someone to not fear it either, and that everything is going to be okay. The lyrics continue to make references to Romeo and Juliet, whose love was so strong it remained even after their deaths. Love is a unifying theme in the song, suggesting that love transcends death and enables one to become like those that have already passed on.

Oh my god, I only found out about this band last autumn, and this is my first time hearing this cover too ! through a film that I caught on TV one night, " Restless natives " ... I only put it on because I read that Bernard Hill was in, but not starring role etc .. .
Anyways as any " Big country " fans will know the band sings the film's theme song, of its own namesake ... 🎸🎼 🎵 🎧 " Restless natives " and from there I was introduced, and YouTube searched the band a bit and I'm enjoying a handful of there own songs now, and a couple of covers that they have done real justice to, Neil Young's " Rockin in the free world " is great, some of the recordings of them singing live on stage are belting, like proper boss job, made it 100% there's, right in the moment.
Quality band, they are/were so talented, Rest in peace to lead singer, William '' Stuart '' Anderson. 🎸 🎵 🎶 🎻

Edward Chapman

Stuart and the boys made everything better.
