Following Adamson's death in 2001, the band reformed in 2007, with the surviving members. Between 2010 and 2013, the band reformed with Mike Peters of The Alarm on lead vocals. Since then the band has continued with only two of the original members (Watson and Brzezicki).
Big Country's first single was "Harvest Home", recorded and released in 1982. It was a modest success, although it did not reach the UK Singles Chart. Their next single was 1983's "Fields Of Fire (400 Miles)", which reached the UK's Top Ten and was followed by the album The Crossing. The album was a hit in the United States (reaching the Top 20 in the Billboard 200), powered by "In a Big Country", their only US Top 40 single.
Stuart Adamson was found dead in a room at the Best Western Plaza Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii on 16 December 2001, having been believed to have died by suicide.
On 24 May 2024 the band announced that singer Tommie Paxton would being "helping them out" for the year. Paxton is guitar player and singer with the Big Country tribute band Restless Natives.

Dee dee dee dee dee ooh oh
Who will find me
Take care and side with me
Dee dee dee dee dee dee dee
Where has all our loving gone
Who will find me
Guide me back
Safely to my home
Where I belong
Once more
Who will find me
Take care and side with me
Guide me back
Safely to my home
Where I belong
Once more (oooooooh)
The lyrics of Big Country’s song “Kiss The Girl Goodbye” can be interpreted in different ways, but the core message of the song is about a person feeling lost and brokenhearted after a failed relationship, seeking comfort and companionship from someone who will stand by them and help them find their way back home to a place where they belong. The opening lines of the song (“Now my heart begins to bleed, Dee dee dee dee dee ooh oh”) suggest a sense of emotional pain and vulnerability, accentuated by the use of onomatopoeia to convey the sound of a heart beating, perhaps erratically or with a heavy heart.
The repetition of the phrases “Who will find me” and “Take care and side with me” underscores the theme of loneliness and the need for support and guidance. The singer is lost in their thoughts, wondering where all their love went and who will be there to help them find it again. The use of the word “guide” suggests that the singer is looking for someone to lead them out of the darkness and back to a place of safety and comfort, where they can feel at home.
In the end, the song conveys a sense of longing and hope that the singer will find the companionship and solace they seek. The plaintive “oooooh” at the end of the song suggests a final cry for help or a plea for someone to come to their rescue. Overall, the song’s lyrics offer a poignant meditation on the universal human experience of loss and the need for connection and support in times of trouble.

on In A Big Country
I never saw you look like this without a reason
Another promise fallen through, another season passes by you
I never took the smile away from anybody's face
And that's a desperate way to look for someone who is still a child
CHORUS:
In a big country dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside
Stay alive
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in the desert
But I can live and breathe and see the sun in wintertime
And in a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice, fires the mountainside
Stay alive
I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered
But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in the desert
But I can live and breathe and see the sun in wintertime
And in a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice, fires the mountainside
Stay alive
And in a big country, dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice, fires the mountainside
Stay alive
So take that look out of here, it doesn't fit you
Because it's happened doesn't mean you've been discarded
Pull up your head off the floor, come up screaming
Cry out for everything you ever might have wanted
I thought that pain and truth were things that really mattered
But you can't stay here with every single hope you had shattered
