Flashlight
Big D And The Kids Table Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Like a flashlight on but lost, my energy's there but wasted
You talk a lot a lot about nothing
You go on and on and I hear you talk a lot about nothing
It goes on and one
You're a really easy act to follow
Once we jump in we're all gone
Like a flashlight on but lost, my energy's there but wasted
I'm sitting down, I'm sitting down
For what? For nothing (it's gotta be our way)
So I'm getting up, standing up and leaving nothing (gotta be our way)
I've never seen someone's emotions break it all
I'm on my way out
I'm on my way out
Too much too late, you haven't thought but you speak loud
You're on your way out
You're a really easy act to follow
Once we jump in we'rea ll gone
It's gotta be our way
Like a flashlight on but lost, my energy's there but wasted

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Big D and the Kids Table's song, "Flashlight," express a sense of frustration and wasted energy towards someone who talks a lot, but says nothing of substance. The metaphor of a flashlight that is lost represents the feeling of searching for direction, but not being able to find it due to the distractions of the empty chatter. The repetition of "you go on and on and I hear you talk a lot about nothing" emphasizes the annoyance and boredom the singer feels towards this person.

The line "you're a really easy act to follow" can be seen as a sarcastic comment towards the person's lack of leadership and vision. The singer then decides to leave the conversation or situation, stating "I'm on my way out, too much too late, you haven't thought but you speak loud." The phrase "gotta be our way" reinforces the idea that the singer is seeking autonomy and control over their own decisions and actions.

I like the song. The instrument part is amazing. and heck i even like the lead singer, but i wish he wasn't singing the whole time because his voice gets old, especially in this one. It'd be cool if someone was actually singing to this song, and he came in with some back up "melodic-talking" he always does.
