Sink
Big Flame Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

S'epidemic irrev-e-lation
The last thing I wanted in all Creation
I couldn't hold onto that smile I made you
The edges were too ragged and the seams were showing through
Just to keep my hand in, I thought I'd write a note
Just to keep my hand in

But you're barrels of fun
You're my elixir ten times over
I'd sail the ocean, I'd swim the sea
But I'd rather be legless than be brought down to my knees

Just to keep my hand in, I thought I'd write a note
Just to keep my hand in, I'll confess
It's on you I dote

There will be times when your wits desert you
There will be times when you feel all aglow
There may be times coming up in that last round
There will be things we all ought to know
There will be!

Just to keep my hand in, I thought I'd write a note
Just to keep my hand in

Oh Lord above us, forgive our wicked ways
I never sinned like this, well, not until today
But the winter caught up, so I threw the summer out
I loved the way you dress but not your drunken list and pout

Just to keep my hand in, I thought I'd write a note

Just to keep my hand in, I'll confess
It's on you I dote

Overall Meaning

The song "Sink" by Big Flame is an emotionally charged piece that explores the complexities of relationships and the despair that can accompany them. The song opens with the line "S'epidemic irrev-e-lation," which seems to suggest a profound realization or awakening that has taken place. The singer then expresses regret, saying that this realization is "the last thing I wanted in all Creation." It appears as though the singer has become aware of something that they would rather not know, something that has shattered their previous view of the relationship.

The next lines suggest that the singer has attempted to mask their true feelings with a smile, but that this facade has failed, and the true state of affairs is now visible. The singer then goes on to express their feelings of affection for their partner, acknowledging that they are a source of joy and comfort. However, the complexities of the relationship are evident as the singer declares that they would "rather be legless than be brought down to their knees." This line seems to indicate that the singer would rather lose everything than accept defeat or appear weak.

The second verse continues in the same vein, with the singer suggesting that difficult times lie ahead and that they believe there are things that everyone should know. They then express their love for their partner, framing it as a confession. However, the song takes a darker turn in the final lines, with the singer confessing to sinning "like this" and referring to their partner's "drunken list and pout." The final lines suggest a sense of disillusionment and despair, as the singer admits that they are trying to hold on but that the situation is becoming increasingly difficult to manage.
