Why Do I Care
Big Money Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm spending
Big money
On things
That she really needs
She just has to have
A new golf bag
The blue one's
So out of season
So how do you think it feels
When my banker gets worn out
When he calls me up and screams
Wake up or it's good night

Why do I care about you
Why can't I let it go
Why do I care about you
When I know you don't want me to
Why do I waste my precious time
No matter how I try
Can't get you off my mind

This weekend
She'll go away to Paris
For a tennis course
Quite expensive
Guess she's worth it
But I don't like
The trainer she's staying with
So how do you think it feels
When my friends are wondering why
And I don't know what to tell them
I'm still asking myself

Why do I care about you
Why can't I let it go
Why do I care about you
When I know you don't want me to
Why do I waste my precious time
No matter how I try
Can't get you off my mind

I still recall the first time we met
With a piercing forehand
I ran towards the net

Why do I care about you
Why can't I let it go
Why do I care about you
When I know you don't want me to
Why do I waste my precious time

No matter how I try
Can't get you off my mind

Overall Meaning

The song "Why Do I Care" by Big Money portrays a man who spends big money on his lover to make her happy but still wonders why he cares so much when she does not reciprocate the same feelings. The singer of the song talks about his lady's desire for luxury, and he sacrifices himself endlessly to fulfill her desires. Despite his lavish spending and apparent love for her, the singer acknowledges that she doesn't love him back, and he can't figure out why he continues to care about her. He reminisces about the time they first met and their mutual love of tennis but can't shake his feelings for her.

The lyrics reveal the theme of unrequited love and emotional struggle, which creates a flow of emotional frustration throughout the song. It deals with issues of the inequality of romantic relationships, the compulsion to spend and satisfy lovers, and the pain of giving someone your all when they don't understand or appreciate it.

Overall, the song suggests the singer's insecurities and vulnerability, making it relatable to many people who might have gone through similar situations in their lives.
