His debut album, Finally Famous, was released in June 2011 and featured guest appearances from hip hop superstars Kanye West, Chris Brown, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, Wiz Khalifa, and Lupe Fiasco.
He was raised by his mother and grandparents who worked steadfastly to instill in him the principles of hard work and determination. Sean attended the Detroit Waldorf School, a school of art, from Kindergarten to 8th Grade where he was in 102.7FM, a local radio station in Detroit where he displayed his rhyming skills weekly. There, he met Kanye West after a radio interview in 2005 and got a chance to display his talent by freestyling for Mr. West, giving him a copy of his music and sending numerous tracks for him to critique. After months of submitting songs and numerous meetings, Sean finally got a call from Kanye West himself saying that he wanted to sign him. Two years later, West signed Big Sean to GOOD Music. Sean has cited West, Eminem, The Notorious B.I.G., and J Dilla as his influences.
On September 30, 2007, Big Sean released his first official mixtape Finally Famous: The Mixtape. His hit single, "Get'cha Some", produced by WrighTrax, attained media attention and led to articles in The Source and the Detroit Metro Times. He also recorded a music video for "Get'cha Some", which was directed by Hype Williams. Sean released a second mixtape hosted by Mick Boogie on April 16, 2009, called UKNOWBIGSEAN. It featured the songs "Million Dollars", "Get'cha Some" and "Supa Dupa". This mixtape includes 30 tracks. When the songs "O.T.T.R." and "Flowers" were leaked in July 2011, speculation began of a new mixtape. Sean confirmed in an interview on June 28, 2011, that a collaborative mixtape between him and "two other guys in hip-hop that are just killing it right now" will be released "in a couple of weeks". Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y were the suspected featured rappers on the mixtape. However, Wiz Khalifa later confirmed that there would be no mixtape, claiming that the songs were created, "just for fun".

Well you need to
Go n getcha some, go go n getcha some (x4)
FRESH, fresh like I'm wrapped in plastic
Polo, Louis to Gucci, like that's one fresh jacket
They lookin' at a n-gga, like that's one fresh bastard
You can't afford the price, so why the hell would you ask it?
These faggots tried to snatch it, get their ass in a casket
Ya honey love me, she admire the fashion, &
I call her baby girl, just like her dad did
There's 100s on my paper like a smart ass class kid
Because I'm on top my rap, like an ad lib
And you should holler mama, Dolce and Gabbana mama
Gotta whole lot o mama, Fendi and a Prada
So you need to
Go n getcha some', go go n getcha some (x2)
But to get that boy, you got to be rich, or sum
& my attire, hard, hard like my dick or sum
I make more than ends meet,
My nigga Big told me it was bout the Benji's
I'm in the limelight, til the point my skin green
Livin' my dreams, til the point you should pinch me
To convince me
FRESH, fresh like I'm wrapped in plastic
Polo, Louis to Gucci, like that's one fresh jacket
They lookin' at a n-gga, like that's one fresh bastard
I'm rich, bitch, see the shit that this cash get
Well you need to
Go n getcha some, go go n getcha some (x4)
If I told you where to get it, you n-ggas still wouldn't grab it
Just to pronounce it, you gotta add an accent
& they askin can they call me grocery store, cuz my pockets full of paper and plastic
Man, you not avoiding my Asian, persuasion

Go n getcha some, go go n getcha some (x2)
These brawds really thinkin, that they gon get em' sum,
So they try to take care of me, like I'm sick or sum
There's some things, I don't like, I love them Nikes
But not the white on whites, forget the price tags
'Cause I get what I like, & you're girl lookin' for me
Because she like the pipe, ya digg

They lookin' at a n-gga, like that's one fresh bastard
I'm rich, bitch, see the shit that this cash get
Well you need to

The fabric on my ass is satin and its sad n
You think you could afford this fabric
When it comes to the hoes all the man like shaft this
Cuz I'm clean cut and handle them like baggage
Atheists turn Christian when I rock my True Religions
It's that real when I'm rockin pastel
These n-ggas wanna wonder what they have on me

So you need to
Go n getcha some, go go n getcha some (x2)
Pose for the hoes they might wanna take a pic or somethin

I'm rich, bitch, see the shit that this cash get
Well you need to
Go n getcha some, go go n getcha some (x4)
The lyrics of Big Sean's song "Get'cha Some" contain various themes, primarily revolving around material wealth and the desire to obtain it. The opening lines sarcastically call out those who wish to steal or take his possessions, urging them instead to "go n getcha some." He boasts about his fashion, name-dropping designers like Polo, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci. He also references his wealth, including "100s on my paper" and "pockets full of paper and plastic." Sean brushes aside those who cannot afford his high-end clothing or lifestyle, describing them as "faggots" who belong in a "casket." He also takes the opportunity to address his female admirers, telling them to "holler" at him and referencing the luxury brands that he enjoys.
The song's catchy chorus adds to the materialistic themes, with the repetition of the phrase "go n getcha some" serving as a call to action for listeners to pursue their own wealth and possessions. Sean also references his sexuality, describing his clothing and genitals as being "hard" and "like I'm wrapped in plastic." The song's overall tone is confident, almost arrogant, with Sean taking pride in his wealth and fashion sense, and daring others to try to match his level of success.
