Anderson began his music career in 2007 and gained popularity in 2010 with his third mixtape Finally Famous Vol. 3: Big. The opening lines of Big Sean's "Starstruck" seem to depict a scenario involving a guy meeting someone special at night and just couldn't resist seeing them again the next day. The guy craves this individual so badly that they'd borrow whatever that person may have to 'get it.' The term "right of my own" could stem from the idea that he wants that moment as his possession. However, something seems to be missing even though he tries to recapture the experience; it still doesn't measure up. Hence, the decision boils down to what ingredient is entirely missing in this scenario leading to the question, "What is the missing ingredient?"
As the song progresses, Big Sean speaks about how difficult it is to maintain a smooth relationship with this person. It feels like they're fumbling each time they try to get hold of each other. "Under the skin is not so easy to swallow" suggests a challenge with the deeper and more private parts of this person. Whatever is going on seems to divide their dreams as it feels hollow on both sides. The individual 'fades away', which could mean they lose interest or disappear. Despite everything, the beauty in this relationship is that they all have different ways of being 'unhuman,' and that's where they find new ways of being.
