Lydia Lunch has collaborated with Terry Edwards, James Johnston and Ian White in a variety of musical guises for the last ten years. From Hangover Hotel and Smoke in the Shadows to the most recent multimedia performances of Real Pornography and The Ghosts of Spain, the three rabble rousers from Gallon Drunk have, in a series of ever morphing configurations, collaborated with Lydia in creating psycho-ambient soundscapes in the service of propelling forth spoken word exorcisms in her decades-long prophecies of societal collapse, moral bankruptcy, and global corruption.
Big Sexy Noise is the primaeval bump, grind and holler of White’s thuggish drums, Johnston’s moronic low-tuned riffing and Edwards’ brutal organ and sax interventions led by Lunch’s take-no-prisoners vocals.
The four band-written originals are complemented here by Kill Your Sons, a Lou Reed tune that seems tailor-made for Lydia, and The Gospel Singer, a song that has been on the back-burner for a while since Lunch co-wrote it with Kim Gordon during downtime from Sonic Youth.
And according to the No Wave Nostradamus herself "It's time to stop complaining, quit your crying and embrace the coming End Times. Let's f*cking rock."
Rocking continues in selected venues throughout the summer with Big Sexy Noise occasionally supporting themselves with a Teenage Jesus and the Jerks set. Surely the hardest working band in the business...

I'm not sure he'll coming home from the front line
The blew up the rest of the world behind the enemy lines
Now my angel's no more than a ghost behind those dark eyes
It's not us versus us it's them it's every man for himself
How you gonna kill the enemy within?
There's nothing left to lose nobody's going to win
Ashes into wind
He carries the weight of the world behind those dark eyes
I'm not sure he'll coming home from the front line
The blew up the rest of the world behind the enemy lines
Now my angel's no more than a ghost behind those dark eyes
It's not us versus us it's them it's every man for himself
How you gonna kill the enemy within?
There's nothing left to lose nobody's going to win
You mighty as well explode
Ashes into wind
He got the call took up the cause
Put on a uniform to fight your fucking war
Lost his mind on the desert island
Saw his beat friend Tommy take a bullet to the back
Thought he'd come home and get a purple heart
Came back and got evicted now he's living in his car
His mama broke down and his daddy is drunk
His girlfriend left him when he started shooting junk
Two hundred bucks from his VA check
His head full of murder and his nervers are wreck
It's a sin what he saw it's crime what he did
Put a rifle in the hand of some fucked up kid
It's not us versus us it's them it's every man for himself
How you gonna kill the enemy within?
There's nothing left to lose nobody's going to win
You mighty as well explode
Ashes into wind
The opening verse of "Dark Eyes" by Big Sexy Noise speaks of a soldier who has been weighed down by the burden of the world behind his dark eyes. There is a sense of doubt as to whether he will return home from the front line, and the destruction that he has witnessed behind enemy lines has left him haunted. The singer's angel, who was once full of life and spirit, is now no more than a ghost behind his dark eyes. The second verse describes a sense of hopelessness and desperation. The enemy is everywhere, including within ourselves, and there seems to be no way to escape or win the war. Exploding into ashes in the wind seems like a better option than continuing to fight.
The final verse is the story of one soldier who took up the cause and went to fight in the war. He saw atrocities and lost his mind on a desert island, where he watched his friend die. He returned home to find himself homeless, addicted to drugs, and struggling to cope with what he had seen and done. The government and society have failed to provide him with the support he needs, and he is left to deal with the consequences of the war on his own. The lyrics convey a sense of anger and frustration at the way soldiers are used and discarded by those in power, as well as a plea for greater understanding and support for veterans.
