Stroke It Noel
Big Star Lyrics

Child will you come on down
Come on in with me
Morning says to idle on
Stay clear of the street.
On the wing
And on the land
Can you sing
With anything
Do you wanna dance
Do ya
Do ya, do ya, do ya wanna dance
Stroke it Noel
They say we're lazy men
Drinkin' our white wine
We could go right insane
'Cause we can buy the time
Oh, keep an eye
On the sky
Will they come
Oh the bombs
Do you wanna dance
Easy now, easy now
Do ya, do ya, do ya wanna dance
Do ya wanna, do ya, wanna dance

One thing that I've noticed about 3rd, is that on several of its song, Alex Chilton sounds so vulnerable & honest; on songs such as this, "Take Care", "You Can't Have Me", "Kizza Me", "Big Black Car", Alex sounds so defeated & broken, almost as if he's on the verge of breaking down.

@11rockitonthe sound of how good it feels to be sad.

It's not "as if he's on the verge of breaking down." It IS the sound of breaking down.

I think you nailed it perfectly, even during the supposedly upbeat numbers like Kizza Me or Thank You Friends or Jesus Christ, it's easy for the listener to hear a man trying his best to keep it together even though that pain is nearly reaching the surface.

Bittersweet and never of my BS favourites

I believe Alex Chilton heard Noel Gilbert's string arrangements on the Jody Stephen's sung 'For You' and asked Noel to contibute on other tracks on what became 'Third'.Glorious stuff

Noel was also a musio buddy of Alex's dad, Sydney
