Story time:

I used to spend so many hours on this game just cruising and admiring the graphics at the time, which to me was beautiful and the mountain layout in the background especially in the sunset setting with the music playing. Young teen that I was I was fascinated with Cali and wanted to see the real deal. Fast forward a few years I went to Cali in 2007 as part of my high school summer trip. We were in LA and went to San Diego taking one of the highways to get you there. Well after that memorable experience I used to play this and would take the same highway to get to SD. I would get to the concrete barrier and spend hours to get over. Eventually I found a way to get over and would run to the other end but the game would go dark and bring the character back into the map. Looking back now makes me thankful that I got to experience this game and becoming a part of my adolescence.

Thanks for this video I tried to play the game again and beat it just to get to the cruising but that time has come and gone and can't get there because I don't want to sit through the whole thing. This wss enough to make me feel nostalgic.

Biggest map of a video game until now. And it was designed in *2002/2003*. I always got lost in the map, so big it was.
Always was so much fun try to explore every little gap in the map. Until today i wasn´t in all areas and streets just because it is so big.
they have wanted to make it realistic and rebuild whole LA as much as possible. That was engagement, ladies and gentlemen. that was really engagement to the players satisfaction.

Caming from SA, it was first a big impression to see the new bigger Los Santos map but after got used to it, it didn't satisfy as much as old SA with less space. Talking about GTA:V, they could have used a lot more of the ocean area. I mean yes, it's nice to dive deep in the sea, but landscape surely would have been more great. I agree, I enjoy SA landscape much more as well. Had more style and difference in my opinion. Also the capability to travel between very different cities made SA special.

I wish Rockstar just used the entire landmass of GTA 5's map for Los Santos instead of the blandish countryside we got. A countryside is nice but GTA 5's countryside just felt really empty. Whereas I enjoyed GTA SA's countrysides.

Surprise, surprise ; I still play this video game ! I don't know if I will ever get tired of just driving around such a huge open area/map; sadly, there are only a few interiors, the mountains are out of reach, the boardwalk and shore scene is severly circumcised, there are no bus lines or train lines for Nick to ride on, taxi rides and side missions are not available either, there are no flying vehicles (without mods), there are bicycles or motorbikes, etc.

I recently got a HDD for my wii so my young kid had something to do over the holidays while staying with me. He loves this game (and TH underground). He starts off where I stopped playing after I had a quick test of the game (drive to jimmy's mission). It starts off s. figueroa st on central LA. He knows to drive north until he hits 5th st, then take the freeway south/harbour until the santa monica freeway west exit, follow that until olympic, then goes down lincoln until hitting rose ave. I only had to show him this freeway entry and exit once (many real life ones are missing) and now he does it himself every time. On venice beach he goes to rose ave where he can get badge points - because everyone is carrying when he frisks them. Then he steals a VW van (his preferred) and cruises santa monica blvd and surrounds for training. I wish the map went more south (like down to long beach for example)

The only time lock downs work is during the usual rush hours lol. This game was cool, I never knew or forgot about the stretch of the map in this, makes me wanna go back to play it.

However I didn't find it as fun as The Getaway because the places felt real to me, they were rendered every detail of a real place and it felt more gloomy, dull, mysterious and exciting at the time instead of your average typical paradise open world look like most games of these gta clones nowadays. The gun fight/fight felt more intimidating and fun in it too because it didn't get as cheesy and over the top like this game so it looked more realistic, it had more subtle variations of personality, instead of personalities that is all out there with the standard big ego. It actually had different vehicles on the roads to this too like actual vans for businesses

This game brings back so many memories. I loved all of the True Crime games, LA, NY and True crime Hong Kong AKA "Sleeping Dogs", which I'm actually playing at the moment. Wish I still had LA, NY was my favorite of them, but LA just had a vibe to it that was unmatched. It has a very awesome storyline and plus! You can play as Snoop Dogg and cruise around in his custom lowrider hittin' switches! If I remember correctly you have to collect bones in order to play as Snoop. I thought it was pretty cool. I remember when games didn't have "dlc packs", You just played the game and found cool stuff or maybe even unlock a secret level, the cheat codes were our DLC packs. Now I'm making it a mission to get a copy of True Crime Streets of LA. Game on!

Nice! Thanks for link! I honestly just had a nostalgia trip watching your video. That game kept me sane throughout the winter when I broke my growth plates in both feet. I would always nose grind the rail in front of the school pretty much every day, I ate it a few times, but nothing too bad. But one day it snowed pretty good and my homie had this cheap flimsy snowboard with rubber straps, which I have never been on a snowboard EVER! but I figured it was a lot like riding a skateboard. So they pushed me towards the stairs and I mean FAST! I hop, I land on the rail and the board just wrapped around the rail which cause my ankles to turn inwards breaking the growth plates in both my feet, I slamed onto the rail, flipped forward onto my head and neck and then slide out in front of my wife's dad, we weren't married at the moment cause we were in highschool and just started dating, but anyway, she took care of me and bought me the game and a system for my birthday. I didn't really want it cause I wasn't into videogames, I liked getting out and doing things. I didn't want to be ungrateful so I accepted and acted joyful as every man should do, but that game had me HOOKED homie! I just couldn't wait to get the next one. Sorry for the long comment and again, thank you for the link. I'm definitely checking it out today! 🤘

And this was Luxoflux's first open world game at that. It wasn't bad video game for their first entry. It is good. If only they still have been around... True Crime: Streets of Chicago would so be so amazing, so many creative possibilities. Love playing the good guy in these video games.

Although it might be a big map and had the landmarks of LA done well, there's a lot of texture bugs and what not. I even remember running around some of the buildings and finding weird textures dropping out or falling into blue hell when I played it back in '03. Still, it's a big map for a game at that time.

How they managed to port this to the GameCube but not GTA is beyond me! At least it's nice to know you got some alternatives to GTA you can play on the Wii (cos it is backwards compatible with GameCube) such as this and Driver Parallel Lines! I recently tried this out on my Wii and it's very cool; used the Nintendont hack from homebrew so I didn't have to buy a GameCube controller, although the controls are VERY awkward with the Wiimote and nunchuk; due to limited buttons, the L and R buttons are mapped to twisting the nunchuk left and right respectively, making shooting very difficult! At least I can drive around very well though, although I could end up bailing out or shooting by accident if I'm not too careful with the nunchuk LOL

@Rihan Saleem yeah, Scarface is as close as you'd get to GTA on the Wii and shooting on there is so satisfying with Wii motion controls; also, there was a trend of porting PS2 titles on the Wii later, like many 2004-2006 PS2 titles were ported around 2007-2008 to Wii so GTA San Andreas (Bully and Manhunt 2 made the cut and they're both Rockstar) could've easily been one of them, but for some reason not - PS: Resident Evil 4 was also on the Wii and I've heard the Wii version of that game is the best one!

Then its not about Mature content. Yeah GTA SA was for the Gamecube era. Timing was the factor..Rockstar never started porting San Andreas until recently... by that time the Wii U was out and they probably didn't want to port a game to a failing console, sales-wise

Can I ask what you mean by that? I lived on a little street off Ocean View near Barrington - in the shadow of the 405-10 interchange. I was considering getting this game just to drive around Mar Vista and see how accurate it was. Hoping it might make me nostalgic, even though I hated living in LA. Is it really that detailed? GTA got Venice Beach and Santa Monica but left Mar Vista out.

@Khris D.They made a lot more than what they allow you to see. You can go as far as the airport in one direction, even has side activities and street names intact. Guess they blocked it off because they couldn't find a use for it. They did the same with True Crime New York with a 1:1 Manhattan, with most landmarks.

As a local, the True Crime map is a 1:1 scale version of the parts of LA it does include. It’s still missing a lot of city limits, like northeast LA, much of South LA, the harbor, and the San Fernando Valley. But I personally prefer the GTAV version because it has a lot more character to it.

BTW Blaine County is supposed to represent Imperial County in southeastern CA (even though they put it north of Los Santos), while the northwestern part of the GTAV map is the central California coast

Chris Ayres I disagree; GTA V map/region of Los Santos is too tiny when compared to TC: Streets of L.A.'s Los Angeles and is Blaine County supposed to represent northern/northwestern Los Angeles County...I could never figure this out !? GTA V's map of Los Angeles/Los Santos doesn't even include East Los Angeles/Los Santos... although, it does include LAX and a vibrant beach/boardwalk scene, mountain regions, and usable public transportation (however, it isn't the full experience as Franklin, Michael, Trevor and a user created avatar cannot ride the bus or call an air-taxi).

Chopper Gunner FYI, part of Inglewood is off map but there's nothing special about the off map areas. It looks like every other place you've seen in the game. Copy paste.

How Big is the Map? If u drive at 80mph ( 130kmh ) it takes 12 mn . Look like u are driving as fast so it seems legit

The roads in True Crime LA are more accurate, they used the same streets and street names. But the graphics in GTA San Andreas are better.

No, definitely not. San Andreas is much more fun, there's a lot more to do and to see in the game world, it's more atmospheric. But True Crime: Streets of LA is still a good game. The map in True Crime is way bigger.

Wouldn't call it better, but certainly bigger. The massive replica of LA is very nice, unfortunately there isn't a whole lot to do other than arresting perps. You could search for dog bones to unlock Snoop Dogg, but doing that without a guide is pure insanity.

@How Big is the Map? I think the last street you can go to in Inglewood before the map ends is called Lennox Blvd. The map also has Los Angeles International Airport and even the Imperial Highway. But you'll be disappointed because the airport is just a giant unused empty space and it doesn't even give off that feeling that you're in an airport. Also the Imperial Highway ends to a Circle ¤ road right before where the 405 freeway was supposed to be. Also funny enough, St Bernard High School is actually in the map. But then again, its another big empty space. However the entire football field actually has grass in it. All the other elementary, middle, and high school districts got replaced with generic buildings sadly.
