I'll Fly Away
Bill & Gloria Gaither Lyrics

I'll fly away
To a home on God's celestial shore
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away
When I die, Hallelujah, bye and bye
When the shadows of this life have grown
I'll fly away
Like a bird from prison bars have flown
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away
When I die, Hallelujah, bye and bye
I'll fly away
Just a few more weary days and then
I'll fly away
To that hole where joy will never end
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away
When I die, Hallelujah, bye and bye
I'll fly away
I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away
When I die, Hallelujah, bye and bye
I'll fly away
The lyrics to "I'll Fly Away" speak to the belief in an afterlife that awaits those who have lived a good and faithful life. The opening line, "Some glad morning when this life is over, I'll fly away," sets the tone for the rest of the song. It suggests that life can be difficult and fraught with challenges, but that there is something beyond this life that is worth looking forward to.
The idea of flying away to a home on God's celestial shore is a common theme in many religious traditions. The word "celestial" means of or relating to heaven or the skies, which suggests that the home being referred to is somewhere beyond our earthly existence. The song imagines this home as a place of joy and peace, where there are no more worries or troubles.
The verse about the "shadows of this life" growing suggests that there are times when life can be dark and difficult. But the image of a bird flying away from prison bars is a powerful metaphor for the freedom and release that comes with spiritual faith. The final verse, which speaks of "that hole where joy will never end," suggests that the afterlife is a place of eternal happiness and rejoicing.

I'll fly away in the morning
When I die hallelujah by and by

Real America is what you see here. Our country is full of God Loving People who are courteous and care about each other and pray for Peace in the World every day. Unfortunately our culture is under attack but we love our Declaration of Independence, our Constitution and our Lord and Savior. I pray and believe that these things will save us.

These people are amazing musicians. Not just the Issacs but the others, too. Love the way the fiddler throws that plucked string into his break and love the variation that the banjo player puts into his 2nd break. One of my dad's favorites and we did it at nearly every church we sang at. Becky is so cool flatpicking that guitar.
