Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
Bill Bourne Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Floating on the China sea
Floating on the China sea
Floating on the China sea
A long way from home
on they boulevard o broken drams.
Kiss me underneath the stairs
Kiss me underneath the stairs
Kiss me underneath the stairs
I'm a long way from home
was a cold wind that put me here
Take a little town
when the moon comes around
The gipsy girl from the hobo town
Sorrow, dancing, love and romancing
could be my cover, my friend.
Yeah! Put away the darks of war
Put away the guns of war
Put away all the bombs of war
It's a long gone sad song
peace is what we living for, Yeah!
Fells like a gift of love
Fells me like a gift of love
Fells like a gift of love
I'm a long way from home
and you're the only one I'm thinking of
Lead me down when the sun comes around
The gipsy girl from the buffalo ground
Love song wings, secret values ring
You could be my cover my friend
Floating on the China sea
Floating on the China sea
Floating on the China sea
A long way from home
on they boulevard of broken drams.

Yeah! I'm a long way from home
on they boulevard of broken drams.

Overall Meaning

In Bill Bourne's song Boulevard of Broken Dreams, he describes his experience of being lost and far from home, reflecting on his loneliness and longing for companionship. The repetition of "floating on the China sea" emphasizes his state of feeling adrift and disconnected. The metaphor of being on the "boulevard of broken dreams" suggests a sense of abandonment and despair. But amidst the sadness, there is a glimmer of hope as he asks to be kissed "underneath the stairs" and expresses his affection for a special person who he is thinking of. The mention of a "gypsy girl from the hobo town" and "buffalo ground" evokes a sense of freedom and spontaneity that contrasts with his own uncertainty and longing.

The call for peace in the line "Put away the guns of war" highlights the desire for resolution and harmony in a world that is filled with conflict and division. The chorus, which repeats the phrase "floating on the China sea," creates a haunting and introspective mood that mirrors the singer's emotions. Overall, Boulevard of Broken Dreams is a poignant reflection on the human experience of isolation and longing for connection.

Bill Bourne is one of the great singer/songwriter/guitarists. He has
over a dozen albums and they are a treasure trove of incredible examples
of brilliant guitar work and lyrics. I've seen him live on numerous
occasions and strongly recommend that you make a point of seeing him
when he's at a venue near you. I will never understand why this Canadian
hasn't become an international sensation.

Bill Bourne is a gift to real music, and also a fine and entertianing musician. I shared a bill with him near Berkeley, California a few yeara ago and was so pleased by his deep and fearless yet compassionale style.  With such a great variety of talents Bill should be better known.  I hope he comes back to the USA sooner than later.
