Some Other Time
Bill Evans Monica Zetterlund Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where has the time all gone to
Haven't done half the things we want to
Oh well, we'll catch up some other time

This day was just a token
Too many words are still unspoken
Oh well, we'll catch up some other time
Just when the fun is starting
Comes the time for parting
Let's just be glad for what we had
And what's to come

There's some much more embracing

Still to be done but time is racing
Oh well, we'll catch up some other time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Some Other Time" are about the inevitability of time passing and how easily opportunities can be missed. The song is sung from the perspective of someone who has not accomplished everything they wanted to do in their life, but is resigned to the fact that there is not enough time left. The lyrics speak to the idea that there is always more to be done, more things to experience, but the reality is that one must appreciate what they have already accomplished.

The song is particularly melancholy, with a focus on the regret over what has been missed out on rather than on the joys of what has been experienced. The final lines of the song suggest that there is still so much to be done, but that it will have to wait until some other time. The use of the word "catch up" implies a sense of urgency and need, highlighting the fleeting nature of time.

Overall, “Some Other Time” is a beautiful ballad that reflects on life and its passing moments, reminding us to cherish what we have while we can.

Beautiful song about the One Who Got Away and loneliness. Signature song for Bill Evans. Great singer.

Monica Z, a true swedish icon. Worked as a switchboard operator during daytime and as a singer in a local band in the evening. From there everything just evolved very fast and she turned into a national super star. Besides singing she also was a very good comedienne. "A lingonberry in a cocktail glass" as here longtime friend Tage Danielsson called her.

Monica Zetterlund is such a great jazz singer & has a phenomenal presence. Very convincing, without doing very much. Very rare these days. She should have more credit on Youtube. It is hard to find any good videos of her. So thank-you very much for uploading this! ❤

@@boinx1234 Yes, thanks! I had seen this one, too. But it is good, that you posted the video before anyway. The atmosphere in this song is really incredible. It is fascinating to see all these performances from long ago. So thanks a lot!

@HFritzson

Zetterlund and Evans get everything possible out of this song.

@JonathanKandell

At least till he expanded it into Flamenco Sketches.
