In the rock (and roll) community, Bill Monroe may be best known via one of Elvis Presley's earliest recordings at Sun Records, that of Monroe's 'Blue Moon of Kentucky'. Patsy Cline also made a highly regarded version of this song.

Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Rawhide, hah, hah
Keep rollin', rollin', rollin'
Though the streams are swollen
Through rain and wind and weather
Hell bent for leather
Wishin' my gal was by my side
All the things I'm missin'
Good vittles, love and kissin'
Are waiting at the end of my ride
Move 'em out, head 'em up
Head 'em up, move 'em on
Move 'em out, head 'em up
Rawhide
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in
Ride 'em in, cut 'em out
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in
Rawhide, hah, hah
Keep movin', movin', movin'
Though they're disapprovin'
Keep them dogies movin', rawhide
Don't try to understand 'em
Just rope an' throw an' brand 'em
Soon we'll be living high and wide
My heart's calculatin'
My true love will be waitin'
Waitin' at the end of my ride
Move 'em out, head 'em up
Head 'em up, move 'em on
Move 'em out, head 'em up
Rawhide
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in
Ride 'em in, cut 'em out
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in
Rawhide
(Rollin', rollin', rollin')
(Rollin', rollin', rollin')
Hah
(Rollin', rollin', rollin')
Hah
(Rollin', rollin', rollin')
Rawhide, hah
Rawhide
The song Rawhide by Bill Monroe is one that expresses the idea of perseverance and determination despite the adversities one may face. In the first verse, the singer talks about rolling through the terrain, dealing with swollen streams and weather conditions while moving rawhide. This represents the struggles and obstacles that one may face in life. The chorus of the song emphasizes the importance of moving forward and not giving up, staying focused on the task at hand. The second verse shows the singer missing the comforts of the loved ones while on this journey, but pushing through with a heart set on completing the journey.
Moreover, the song also depicts the life of cowboys as they move cattle from one place to another. This is evident with lines such as "Cut 'em out, ride 'em in" and "Just rope an' throw an' brand 'em." The chorus provides encouragement for cowboys as they undertake this challenging task. The song is not just about cowboys and their way of life, but it also gives a universal message of perseverance and determination.

I found the comment about the scrolls and the gibson inlay very informational and interesting too. I do no know why people voted it down. It is true. Anyone who takes a pocket knife to a gibson F-5 has a bit of Diva in them. Bill was one of the best! I want to leave work and play my mandolin right now!
