In the rock (and roll) community, Bill Monroe may be best known via one of Elvis Presley's earliest recordings at Sun Records, that of Monroe's 'Blue Moon of Kentucky'. Patsy Cline also made a highly regarded version of this song.

I want to be ready
I want to be ready, Lord
To walk into Jerusalem, just like John
I want to be ready
I want to be ready
I want to be ready, Lord
Oh, John, oh John, oh what did you say
Walking in Jerusalem, just like John
I'll meet you there on the crowning day
Walking in Jerusalem, just like John
I want to be ready
I want to be ready
I want to be ready, Lord
To walk into Jerusalem, just like John
I want to be ready
I want to be ready
I want to be ready, Lord
To walk into Jerusalem, just like John
Oh, some comes cripple and some comes lame
Walking in Jerusalem, just like John
Some comes walking in Jesus' name
Walking in Jerusalem, just like John
I want to be ready
I want to be ready
I want to be ready, Lord
To walk into Jerusalem, just like John
I want to be ready
I want to be ready
I want to be ready, Lord
To walk into Jerusalem, just like John
Old Judas rested upon his shoulder
Walking in Jerusalem, just like John
I'll meet you there at the first crossover
Walking in Jerusalem, just like John
I want to be ready
I want to be ready
I want to be ready, Lord
To walk into Jerusalem, just like John
I want to be ready
I want to be ready
I want to be ready, Lord
To walk into Jerusalem, just like John
The lyrics of Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys' song "Walking in Jerusalem" are a religious gospel song about being ready to enter Jerusalem just like John, one of the apostles of Jesus. The repetition of the phrase "I want to be ready" emphasizes the urgency and importance of being prepared for the heavenly destination. The song talks about the different ways people come to walk in Jerusalem, some are crippled or lame, while others walk in Jesus' name. Even Judas, who betrayed Jesus, is mentioned in the song with the hope of meeting him at the crossover.
The song's message is one of hope and redemption. It reminds the listener that no matter what their background or situation, they can still hope to walk into Jerusalem like John. The song also emphasizes the importance of faith in Jesus and the power of forgiveness. No one is perfect, but through repentance, anyone can be made ready to walk in Jerusalem.

I met Bill Monroe years ago when portable guitar tuners had just been invented and I asked Bill what he thought of the new fangled tuners, fully expecting him to deride them, but much to my surprise he said Quote: "Best thing ever invented!"

Being ready comes down to doing what needs to be done here and now in each situation as it arises--when it needs to be done, the way it needs to be done, because it needs to be done, no matter what. Jesus laid this all out. "Love your enemies. Love your neighbor. Love yourself. By living in loving ways to all three--doing unto all others as we would like them to do unto us." What to be ready? Do that! To all others! ALL others.
