My Man
Billie Holiday Lyrics

It's cost me a lot
But there's one thing that I've got
It's my man, it's my man
Cold and wet, tired, you bet
All of this I'll soon forget with my man

He's not much for looks
He's no hero out of books
But I love him, yes I love him
Two or three girls has he
That he likes as well as me
But I love him

I don't know why I should
He isn't true
He beats me too
What can I do

Oh, my man, I love him so
He'll never know
All my life is just despair
But I don't care
When he takes me in his arms
The world is bright, all right

What's the difference if I say
I'll go away, when I know
I'll come back on my knees some day?
For whatever my man is
I am his forever more

"My Man"

It cost me a lot
But there's one thing that I've got
It's my man
It's my man

Cold or wet
Tired, you bet
All of this I'll soon forget
With my man

He's not much on looks
He's no hero out of books
But I love him
Yes, I love him

Two or three girls
Has he

But I love him

I don't know why I should
He isn't true
He beats me, too
What can I do?

Oh, my man, I love him so
He'll never know
All my life is just a spare
But I don't care
When he takes me in his arms
The world is bright
All right

What's the difference if I say
I'll go away
When I know I'll come back
On my knees someday

For whatever my man is
I'm his forevermore

People may say she didn’t have a great voice, or it wasn’t as strong as Sarah Vaughn, or as sophisticated as Ella Fitzgerald. But Billie was Raw, and full of Emotions. She has so much pain and
Sadness you can hear it her voice. She had the power to touch you with the emotions. That’s way she’s so great, and that’s why she’s my Favourite. She was the first jazz singer I fell in love with. And every time I hear a song, with that voice, I’m that’s Lady Day. My favourite Album is Lady in Satin. She was getting sick, and lost a lot of her voice. But if you hear the album. She still could move you.

I agree with this. I love Billie Holiday.

@Juliette’s Ridiculous Cinema to be fair. Billie Holiday did both.

Juliette’s Ridiculous Cinema

She sang songs because they were part of her life, unlike Frank Sinatra or Ella that just sang someone else’s songs. There I said it.

@Kay A well.. She didn't need it... Did she? Here we are... 70years later... 😉

I loved her voice and the pain of her lyrics. the raw honesty.

@Billy Murray Fan the version of Aileen is HORRIBLE jajajajajja boring and repetitive, many women of that time had the same voice. Billie had and has a unique voice

@Billy Murray Fan Sound a bit schizophrenic my friend. Hope you are well.

Rachel Henderson I HATE her voice because she had the devil’s voice. I NOT have it by myself. God told me that in 2015. Holiday was the devil in form of a lady. God loved her much andcalled her,but she never answar him a word. I love the voice of Aileen Stanley. ( modt populsr female singer of the 1920s) Aileen alsorecorded this song and herversion is so beautifully.
