Georgia On My Mind
Billie Jo Spears Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Maybe I didn't love you
Quite as often as I could have
Maybe I didn't treat you
Quite as good as I should have
If I made you feel second best
Girl I'm sorry I was blind

But you were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Maybe I didn't hold you
All those lonely, lonely times
I guess I never told you
That I am so happy that you're mine
If I made you feel second best
Girl I'm sorry I was blind

But you were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
Give me, give me one more chance
To keep you satisfied
I'll keep you satisfied

Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
But you were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Overall Meaning

In this song, Billie Jo Spears expresses regret for not being the best partner to her significant other. She acknowledges that she didn't love or treat them as well as she should have, and is sorry for making them feel like second best. However, despite her shortcomings, her partner was always on her mind, indicating that their presence was a constant reminder of what she had, and what could have been if things were different. By admitting her faults and apologizing, Spears hopes to salvage what she can and keep her partner satisfied in the future.

The lyrics in this song are relatable to anyone who has been in a relationship where they could have done better. It's an honest admission of guilt and an attempt to make amends. The melody is also melancholic, further emphasizing the regretful tone of the song. It's a cautionary tale of not taking relationships for granted and making sure to appreciate your loved ones as much as possible.

I can remember my Mum dancing to this. Sadly she is no longer with us but I can still see her. We played it for her funeral and today she would have been 89. Happy birthday Mum xx

I can still remember Dad , one Saturday, just popping this on , and turning up the volume up 😊
I think it showed just how much he loved mum and how’s happy they were …..both passed now, but I always think it was their song ❤
