Though Billy lacked Gerry's musical acumen - as he himself admitted - there's a purity and humility in his compositions which is really rather touching

Contrary to comments below, this song is a Connolly composition dated 1969 from "The Humblebums First Collection Of Merry Melodies" with Thomas Hardy.
Billy and Tom recorded one album and then Billy went and (re)formed The New Humblebums with Gerry Rafferty and produced (I think) two albums; "The Humblebums" and "Open Up The Door".
Billy says you can hear Gerry on all of Billy's compositions but you can't hear Billy on Gerry's because Gerry would come back after everyone had left the studio and re-record Billy's part.
Am I the only old folker in the world still performing Billy Connolly songs?
Best wishes Billy, thinking of you in your battle.

Gerry Rafferty was a well accomplished singer/songwriter from Paisley in Scotland. His best known record was" Baker Street" which reached the top 3 in the UK and USA. He left this group after 2 years to form a group called "Stealers Wheel" which had a hit with "Stuck in the Middle with You".

Think you will find that "The Humblebums" consisted of Billy Connolly and Tam Harvey who wowed Scottish audiences up to early 1970 when Gerry Rafferty joined them for a short while before the group broke up. The Humblebums first LP was "First Collection of Merry Melodies (I still have a copy!!) and was by Billy and Tam who was a fantatastic guitarist. I last saw them play together, along with Gerry Rafferty in the old BLMC canteen in Bathgate.
