Overall Meaning

Billy Joel's Band Introductions is a short, spoken interlude in his live performances that introduces the members of his band, and acknowledges his sound engineer's special night. The lyrics are a straightforward introduction of the musicians in the band, opening with a request to introduce the orchestra, moving on to credit specific members for their instruments, before announcing the sound engineer's 25th anniversary. The lyrics are simple and to the point, with the only deviation being the brief birthday song for the sound engineer.

The lyrics to Band Introductions, while not musically or lyrically significant, represent Billy Joel's recognition of the people who help make his music possible. Joel's success was largely due to his band's skill and dedication, and he takes a moment during his live shows to acknowledge the hard work of each member. Additionally, by performing a quick birthday song for his sound engineer, Joel shows he's not above having a little fun and celebrating important milestones with his colleagues.

Don't you wish Billy Joel and band would sing "Happy Birthday" to you?

Yeah, this is the back cover photo from, "The Stranger" album, and the guy in the Yankees jersey is Producer Phil Ramone. (He's the 'R' in A&R Recording Studios, one of the legendary New York recording centers) It's not the best picture of him, he looks really old here.

0:27 Ha, I know this in the 70s so obviously not actually, but that little bass riff almost sounds a little like the Underground theme from Super Mario Bros

Very true

I assume this was from the Stranger 30th anniversary edition?

Mac's Records

@jonanjello If I'm not mistaken, that's Phil Ramone, who was Billy Joel's producer at the time.

Guys help - who's the guy with the Yankees jersey?

Fred Striker

Everyone should watch the documentary, sideman, on Prime. Tells the story of how Billy screwed over every one of these guys
