Don't Worry Baby
Billy Joel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, it's been building up inside of me for, oh, I don't know how long
I don't know why but I keep thinking something's bound to go wrong
But she looks in my eyes and makes me realize and she says

(Don't worry, baby) Don't worry, baby (Don't worry, baby)
Everything will turn out all right
(Don't worry, baby) Don't worry, baby (Don't worry, baby) Ooh ooh
I guess I should've kept my mouth shut when I started to brag about my car
But I can't back down now because I pushed the other guys too far
She makes me come alive and makes me wanna drive when she says

(Don't worry, baby) Don't worry, baby (Don't worry, baby)
Everything will turn out all right
(Don't worry, baby) Don't worry, baby (Don't worry, baby)

She told me, baby when you race today, just take along my love with you
And if you knew how much I loved you, baby, nothing could go wrong with you
Oh, what she does to me when she makes love to me and she says...

(Don't worry, baby) Don't worry, baby (Don't worry, baby)
Everything will turn out all right
(Don't worry, baby) Don't worry, baby (Don't worry, baby)
Everything will turn out all right
(Don't worry, baby) Don't worry, baby (Don't worry, baby)
Everything will turn out all right
(Don't worry, baby) Don't worry, baby (Don't worry, baby)
Everything will turn out all right
(Don't worry, baby) Don't worry, baby (Don't worry, baby)

Everything will turn out all right
(Don't worry, baby) Don't worry, baby (Don't worry, baby)

Overall Meaning

In "Don't Worry, Baby," Billy Joel sings about feeling anxious and insecure, especially when it comes to impressing a woman. He admits that he's been experiencing this feeling for a while, although he doesn't know why. However, when he looks into her eyes, she reassures him that everything will be okay. She tells him to take her love with him as he races his car, and to trust that her love will keep him safe. Even though he still feels uncertain, her love and support make him feel alive and energized.

The song is a perfect example of the love and reassurance that can come from a supportive partner. The lyrics suggest that Joel's anxiety and insecurity stem from a desire to impress his partner, and that her love and encouragement are enough to help him overcome those feelings. Overall, the song is a sweet and heartfelt ode to the power of love to calm our fears and help us feel confident and capable.

So Billy doesn't try to replicate Brian's plaintive, soulful falsetto; and brings a bit more of a NY doo-wop feel. So he does what he does, but he definitely brings it. Love this cover!
