Sometimes a Fantasy
by Billy Joel

I didn't want to do it but I got too lonely
I had to call you up in the middle of the night
I know it's awful hard to try to make love long distance
But I really needed stimulation
Though it was only my imagination

It's just a fantasy
It's not the real thing
It's just a fantasy
It's not the real thing
But sometimes a fantasy
Is all you need

When am I gonna take control get a hold of my emotions
Why does it only seem to hit me in the middle of the night
You told me there's a number I can always dial for assistance
I don't want to deal with outside action
Only you can give me satisfaction

It's just a fantasy
It's not the real thing
It's just a fantasy
It's not the real thing
But sometimes a fantasy
Is all you need

Sure it would be better if I had you here to hold me
Be better baby but believe me it's the next best thing
I'm sure there's many times you've wanted me to hear your secrets
Don't be afraid to say the words that move me
Anytime you want to tell them to me

It's just a fantasy
It's not the real thing
It's just a fantasy
It's not the real thing
But sometimes a fantasy
Is all you need
It's just a fantasy
It's not the real thing
It's just a fantasy
It's not the real thing

For those of you saying that this was a "bad" video, you obviously have no knowledge of history.  1980, here in the United States, music videos were still very much in their infancy.  Record companies wanted them, but damned if the artists knew how to deliver.  Some of them were clever and made great stuff; others really tried, but it didn't quite come across.  Joel also gave us "Allentown" and "Pressure" just two years later, which remain today as benchmarks in music video.  As for his teeth, you're thinking with Beyonce Brains.  It used to be about the MUSIC, not the image, and it's so sad that you obviously don't see that.

I remember seeing this video on HBO video jukebox back in the day. Good song.

I love the song and video and I MISS his original teeth. They were REAL and so not "Hollywood"............today? Everyone has those pure white veneers and they really interfere with the facial structure and features. Too generic. I miss the quirks of the 60s. No one was "perfect" back then..........just more interesting to look at!

To be fair, it was about the image back then too, but that wasn't always the first and only thing that determined an artist's popularity.

Edit: everything else, about the music video quality, you're completely right on!

@Doug Durrum ~ Unfortunately you are right. Music today is such trash. There is no actual talent. Almost none of them play any instruments, or sing for that matter. I rarely listen to anything from today...🎶

Spot on. 80s were epic. Original. Raw
